Best known for writing the multi-award-winning feature Green Street, starring Elijah Wood and Charlie Hunnam, the former Royal Air Force serviceman began his literary career in 1996 with Everywhere We Go, a book based on his own experiences as a soccer casual. The book offered an insider's look at football culture and hooliganism and became an instant hit.
Since then, he has authored 16 more books, establishing himself as one of the UK’s most prolific writers and a leading expert on lad culture. His novel The Crew remains a top soccer download on Amazon and iTunes more than 11 years after its initial 2000 release. Brimson has also gained recognition for his comedy writing, addressing topics including men and romance as well as men's passion for soccer.
In 2003, Dougie transitioned into screenwriting, beginning with the critically acclaimed short film It’s a Casual Life, followed by his first full-length feature, the Hollywood-backed Green Street starring Elijah Wood. Released in September 2005, the film garnered numerous awards such as the Narrative Jury Prize and Narrative Feature Audience Award at SXSW Film Festival, Best of Festival and Jury Award at Malibu Film Festival, and was an Official Selection at Tribeca Film Festival. After a successful global cinema run, the movie sold over 80,000 DVD units in its first UK week alone.
In May 2014, his second feature film, an adaptation of his novel Top Dog directed by Martin Kemp, was released. The film won Best Feature at the British Independent Film Festival, along with Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress awards. It was also nominated for Best Action Feature at the National Film Awards 2015.
His third feature, the urban revenge thriller We Still Kill The Old Way starring Ian Ogilvy, James Cosmo, Steven Berkhoff, and Danni Dyer, premiered on December 16, 2014. The film has since received multiple nominations, including Best Action Film at The Action Elite Awards 2015.
In 2021, Brimson launched his own production company, Red Bus Movies Ltd. Projects currently in development include The Battle For Stathie Manor, The Lion Of London Bridge, Wings Of A Sparrow, and Hit It!
