Biography:
With 25 years of experience, he has worked across various audiovisual genres in Brazil, Portugal, Spain, and England, serving as AD, executive producer, screenwriter, and director.
He served as assistant director to renowned Portuguese director Manoel de Oliveira, esteemed Finnish filmmaker Mika Kaurismaki, and Brazilian cult director Edgard Navarro, among others.
In 2006, he co-founded DocDoma Filmes in Salvador, Brazil.
That same year, he released his first documentary feature as screenwriter and director, "Agostinho da Silva - Um Pensamento Vivo" (A Living Thought), a Brazil-Portugal co-production screened in 100 Portuguese cities.
In 2010, his debut fiction feature as screenwriter and director, "Trampolim do Forte" (Diving into the Blue), a Brazil-Germany co-production, premiered in competition at Festival do Rio Premiére Brasil.
In 2020, the live-action children’s TV series "Francisco Just Wants to Play Ball" (a.k.a. Chico Bola), consisting of 13 episodes (13x26'), where he is co-executive producer, co-writer, and co-director, is set to premiere at Rio2C.
Jão Rodrigo Mattos is recognized as one of Brazil's emerging young screenwriting talents.
In 2020, two fiction feature films written by him are scheduled for production: "A Matriarca" directed by Lula Oliveira and "La Mamma" directed by Carina Bini, alongside the 13-episode children’s series "Francisco Just Wants to Play Ball," for which he is co-executive producer, co-creator, and co-director.
In the digital content realm, he is the creator and showrunner of "CRIAturas" (Creatures), a subversive talk show where two artists interview each other freely, guided only by a theme provided by the program’s creator.
