Dylan Townsend is an Irish writer/director and producer based in Austin, Texas, whose work explores the collision between spiritual seeking, new age wellness & modern American culture; with equal parts satire and sincerity. His directorial feature debut, 'The Academy of Everything is Possible' (2026) starring Al Sapienza, Alexis Knapp, and Paul Greene, was completed July 2026.
The film follows a Texan family man, having a mid life crisis who accidentally attends the wrong retreat in Austin, drinks a psychedelic tea, and navigates the weird wonderful woo-woo world of new age spirituality, before ultimately facing himself and becoming a husband again. It's a 108-minute wellness comedy that examines transformation, global religious philosophy, belonging, and the commercialization of healing, themes that have become signature territory for Townsend's distinctive voice.
Previously, as writer & director on the 10-episode coffee shop sitcom series 'Under The Influence'(2026), Dylan brought his satirical lens to the world of social media influencers set in a coffee shop. Starring Michael Coleman( Once Upon a Time), Shiobhan Williams (The Quarry), Max Lloyd Jones (Planet of the Apes), and Jon Cor (The Flash). The series, described as "Exploring influencers as the hipsters of 2027" is currently being brought to market.
Townsend's creative output reflects an outsider's fascination with uniquely American phenomena. His follow up feature film, 'The Playa Provides' (2027) imagines retirees breaking out of their home to attend Burning Man with confused millennials, on a road trip with deep generational polarity. This project examines the current generational and cultural divides we face in a 2027 America.
His television work similarly interrogates contemporary culture with warmth and wit. 'Intentional'(2022), a one-hour dramedy developed with Two female writers, follows a family who must live together at an inherited Topanga ranch-turned-spiritual-retreat, uncovering Hollywood's "swinging history" along the way. 'Wewoke' (2020), developed in collaboration with director Kirsten Sheridan (August Rush, In America), satirizes a " business incubator" in Topanga.
Townsend's earlier series 'Hipsterverse' (2016), sold to Roku and aired across North America in 2016, established his comedic voice around generational clashes and "first world problems."
As a producer, Townsend founded L & L Townsend Productions in Austin, which produced The Academy of Everything is Possible. He previously produced the ambitious 26-minute short film 'Bad Suns'(2019), set in a desolate 2028 Los Angeles.
Shot with DP Ian Fox (Barbie, Jurassic Park) and directed by Kevin Ryan (Copper, Blacklist), the film collected 28 festival awards including five Best Film honors, leading to a worldwide distribution deal with Dust Studios and a feature development opportunity for Ryan.
From Vancouver coffee shops to Austin retreat centers, from Burning Man's playa to Topanga swinger ranches, Townsend's work consistently explores how people search for meaning, community, and transformation in contemporary culture. His Irish perspective provides both distance and empathy, close enough to care about American seekers, far enough to laugh at their contradictions.
