Sophie Reine was born in 1972 in Paris, France. She studied art history at Paris 8 University, gained knowledge of film structure, and trained as a scriptwriter. She is recognized for her unique vision and keen analysis of storylines.
Whenever a project sparks her interest, she dedicates all her energy to supporting the director, even if the editing occurs halfway around the world. In 2020, she worked on The Eddy, a Netflix series written by Damien Chazelle and Jack Thorne, alongside director Alan Poul. This year, she collaborated for the second time with Ira Sachs on Passages (starring Franz Rogowski, Ben Whishaw, and Adèle Exarchopoulos), which was selected for the 2023 Sundance Festival. She has also worked with Michel Gondry, Laurent Cantet, and Cedric Jimenez. In 2009, she received the French Oscar for editing The First Day of the Rest of Your Life, directed by Rémi Bezançon.
Alongside her editing career, she writes and directs her own projects. She enjoys blending her three passions: editing, scriptwriting, and directing. "Balancing these three aspects of my life makes me stronger. It is my equilibrium." Her feature film The Fabulous Patar was released in 2016, featuring Camille Cottin, known for Call My Agent. The film explores an unconventional single-parent family that authorities try to control. "Fighting stereotypes and embracing differences" are recurring themes close to her heart. The film was well received by both critics and audiences. She was nominated for the French Oscar (César) for Best First Film in 2017.
In 2021, Sophie co-directed the first French Disney+ series, Weekend Family. She is currently working on adapting two novels: Going Under, with Chapka Film and Windy Production, and Champion. Her upcoming editing project is Tout va bien, a Disney+ series written by Camille de Castelnau.
