Award-winning writer and director Rick Mowat earned Best Director for his debut feature film, A Cat's Tale. A Juilliard School alumnus, his acclaimed short films include the recently released Hunter iS F**ked, which has screened at over 12 festivals and won awards for Best Dark Comedy and Best Ensemble Cast. Rick has also written and/or directed The Meet, Absolution, Marty Learns To Drive, and Hanging Plant. His work has been showcased at the Woodstock Film Festival, PBS' Reel Thirteen, Chelsea International Film Festival, London Rocks, Brussels International Film Festival, Austin Comedy Film Festival, Anthology Film Archives in NYC, Portland Comedy Film Festival, Woods Hole Film Festival, Lake Placid Film Festival, and Eugene International Film Festival. Rick co-wrote and performed in the hit theatrical comedy Smash The Treadmill, which was named #1 Critics Pick by TimeOut Magazine. He has directed numerous stage productions, including the award-winning Can't Cut My Head Off at Polaris North and the sci-fi rock musical The Last American, as well as numerous shows for Dramatic Question Theater Company, Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre, and Soho Playhouse. Recently, he directed La Got Fria (A Comedy about Cancer) at the Thalia Theater in NYC, Marcel and Eddie at the Tarte Theater, and Murray & Curry at The Depot Theater in Garrison, NY. As an actor, Rick appeared in Woody Allen's Celebrity, Sweet and Lowdown, and The Town I Love, and performed improvisational sketch comedy nationwide. His second feature film, Last Pint, which he co-wrote and directed, is scheduled for filming in 2023. Additionally, Rick has contributed articles to Filmmaker and Script magazines.
