At just five years old, Laura Nativo stepped onto the set of the children's TV show Romper Room (1972) and instantly knew show business was her calling. But when her mother passed away from cancer months later, Laura understood that her path to Hollywood would be challenging, if not impossible. With her mother gone and her father working, six-year-old Laura assumed the roles of "mother, wife, older sister, daughter," raising both herself and her younger sister.
Growing up in Parsippany, New Jersey, Laura led a highly sheltered life, attending Catholic school for 12 years. Her demanding home responsibilities left little time to maintain her straight A+ grades, excel in traveling softball and soccer, win numerous forensics competitions, cheer for St. Christopher's basketball team, and still chase her dream of becoming a movie star. Yet, she found time for her greatest passion: acting. She participated in countless plays, musicals, and indie films, attended rigorous performing arts summer camps, and toured with the professional children's theater group Kids On Tour. These 12 years of discipline and long days taught Laura that with determination and time management, anything is achievable. In hindsight, these tough years laid the foundation for her success.
After graduating at the top of her eighth-grade class, Laura attended Parsippany Hills High School, balancing intensive performing arts studies—including acting, singing, dancing, gymnastics, debate, and public speaking—with a heavy academic workload, varsity cheerleading and softball, leadership roles in Student Council, Key Club, and Environmental Club, earning prestigious National DECA awards and dedicating hours to community service. Despite being a four-year National Honor Society member and recognized in "Who's Who Among American High Schools," Laura knew the academic path to Harvard wasn’t her calling.
Her breakthrough came when Woody Allen discovered her at an open casting call in New York City, casting her in his film Celebrity (1998). Inspired, at 17 Laura traveled to California intending to spend just a summer studying film and TV at UCLA and The Media Workshops. She quickly fell in love with L.A. and, after jokingly asking her father if she could move there and receiving his approval, this straight-A student gave up her senior year—with its pep rallies and prom—and left her family and friends behind to pursue her Hollywood ambitions. She completed Beverly Hills High School in just three months through a special independent study program for teens in entertainment—an alumni network that includes Angelina Jolie and Nicolas Cage—earning a 4.0 GPA. Determined to earn her place on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Laura declined full scholarships to several prestigious universities, putting her college plans on hold indefinitely. At only 17, she was confident she wouldn’t need a backup plan.
Today, Laura Nativo is recognized as one of Hollywood’s most promising young talents. When not in front of the camera, she works as a producer for films and music videos. Her natural talent, exceptional focus, positive “can-do” attitude, and healthy, drug-free lifestyle make her a role model for young girls everywhere. At just 21, as President of Inspire Entertainment, she has already launched her own production company, record label, and magazine. In her spare time, Laura serves as spokesperson for Rock To Cure, a charity she co-founded that uses music to raise funds and awareness for organizations such as City of Hope, the National Kidney Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis, and Drug-Free America. Describing herself as a “prissy tomboy,” Laura enjoys baseball, football, rollerblading, biking, tennis, rock climbing, water sports, and virtually any fun athletic activity. For the past two years, she has studied gymnastics and capoeira, a Brazilian martial art, in preparation for her upcoming film, B.A.B.E. Force. An avid traveler always seeking new adventures, Laura says, “home is where my suitcase is!” A Jersey girl at heart, she remains very close to her supportive father, Angelo, a scientist, and her younger sister Lisa, a freshman at Rowan University, whom she visits as often as possible.
