Yngvild Støen Grotmol was born in Norway and raised in Oslo with her parents and older sister.
During her childhood, her family relocated to San Francisco, where her parents, Dr. Randi Støen and Dr. Tom Grotmol, conducted medical research at UCSF for several years.
Yngvild developed an early passion for the arts, playing both violin and piano. She enjoyed singing and performing in school plays.
At age 15, she moved to the Dominican Republic as an exchange student, where she learned Spanish. She attended Foss Videregående skole, a music high school in Oslo, focusing on jazz singing.
Her first acting training was at The Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York City. She later studied acting at Rose Bruford College in England and spent three years at The Nordic Institute of Scene and Studio in Oslo. Additionally, she pursued studies in linguistics, psychology, and theatre history at the University of Oslo.
Yngvild is a versatile actress skilled in drama and comedy, with experience in theatre, musicals, cabarets, films, and TV series.
She is well-known throughout Scandinavia for roles in series and films such as Seks som oss, Upperdog, Cybergullet, and had her first lead role in the sitcom Schmokk.
In 2020, she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Amanda Awards for her role in the feature film Alle utlendinger har lukka gardiner.
Yngvild starred as one of the main characters in Jarl Emsell Larsen's award-winning Norwegian TV series Øyevitne (2014). In Denmark, she gained recognition for her role in the acclaimed TV series Herrens Veje (Ride Upon the Storm), which featured the first lesbian love scene ever filmed on Danish television.
In 2022, she starred in the controversial Norwegian Netflix series The Lørenskog Disappearance, which became one of the most-watched shows in Scandinavia and several other countries worldwide.
Most recently, she appeared as Gudrid in the hit Netflix series Vikings: Valhalla, season 2, which premiered in January 2023.
In addition to acting, Yngvild is a professional singer and musician and frequently works as a voice actor, providing voice-overs for animated films and audiobooks.
