Todd Hayen began his career by leaving his small hometown of Middletown, Virginia, and moving to Hollywood, where he quickly immersed himself in the entertainment industry, composing and writing music for Hanna-Barbera Productions. His deep understanding of orchestral music and unique ability to craft memorable, evocative melodies quickly established him as a notable musical talent.
Coming from a family with a background in musical theater, Todd developed an early passion for how music enhances visual storytelling. "When I was a kid," Hayen recalls, "my daydreams always had underscore to them." This profound appreciation for music's storytelling power became the foundation for his success, further refined through rigorous training at Shenandoah University (Winchester, VA) and the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music (Cincinnati, OH). Combining the grandeur of symphonic tradition with innovative electronic elements, Todd has composed scores across a wide range of genres, including heartfelt family dramas, intense action films, magical fantasies, dark psychological thrillers, children's animations, and eccentric science fiction. He has also contributed to documentaries and commercials, with his music featured daily in Philadelphia's Independence National Park’s acclaimed "Lights of Liberty" tour. Critics have described his style as "residing comfortably between the grandeur of John Williams and the gentle intimacy of Rachel Portman, with a touch of Thomas Newman's quirky electronic sophistication."
Todd has recorded and conducted his music internationally in prestigious venues such as Tokyo, Moscow, and Toronto. He has collaborated with notable figures in the entertainment industry, including Julian Lennon, Roy Orbison, John Debney, Van Dyke Parks, Gary Chang, John Frankenheimer, David Lynch, Ivan Reitman, and Francis Ford Coppola. Currently, Todd operates a state-of-the-art studio in Burbank and lives in Pasadena with his wife Janice. Together, they enjoy hiking in California’s deserts and mountains, traveling to far-off destinations when time permits, and sharing their lives with their three Siberian Huskies: Kije, Neli, and Bobo.
