Dan Schmit, founder and owner of Engine Room, graduated from Cal-Arts in 1989, specializing in directing experimental animation, motion control, and optical printing. He worked at Stargate Films until 1999 as a visual effects supervisor, director of photography, and head of production. In 2001, Dan launched Engine Room as a hybrid studio combining post visual effects, live action, and motion graphic design. He manages the diverse projects at Engine Room and served as VFX Supervisor on films such as Soul Surfer, A Single Man, Burnt, The Bad Batch, and You People. With Dan's extensive experience, Engine Room operates across multiple industry sectors, maintaining a strong presence in television by providing digital effects for shows like The Rookie, You, The Other Two, Better Things, and many other current episodic series. Now in its 22nd year, Engine Room Hollywood has completed over 40,000 visual effects shots for hundreds of films, television shows, and new media projects. As a cinematographer, Dan leads Engine Room's distinctive DP-driven production company, regularly producing special projects for major film studios, networks, and commercial clients.
