Hari Sama is a Mexican director, screenwriter, actor, producer, and musician. He studied film directing at the Cinematographic Training Center (CCC) and composition at the Center for Research and Music Studies in Mexico City. From an early age, he has been passionate about both film and music. Hari Sama has emerged as a prominent voice in Mexico's new independent cinema. His films explore themes of pain and space, dark impulses and light. He often works on autobiographical projects, delving into his own experiences and placing himself in challenging situations to foster genuine humanistic reflection. His work has been featured in numerous international festivals, earning awards at events such as the San Sebastian International Film Festival, Shanghai International Film Festival, Biarritz Latin American Film Festival, Mar del Plata, Montreal World Film Festival, Guadalajara International Film Festival, and Morelia International Film Festival. His latest film, This is Not Berlin, premiered in January 2019 at the Sundance Film Festival to positive reviews from Screen Daily, Out Magazine, and others. It also screened at Tribeca's Critics' Week and the Seattle and Miami International Film Festivals, winning four awards at the Málaga Spanish Film Festival: Jury Special Award, Best Supporting Actor, Best Cinematography, and Critics' Award. Currently, he is developing his sixth feature and first English-language film, Yosemite, produced by That's Wonderful Productions. Additionally, he is working on his first TV series with Max Zunino for Gaumont Film Company and producing Jorge Cuchí's debut feature, 50 or Two Whales Meet at Beach, which recently premiered internationally at the Venice International Film Critics' Week.
