Iain Cash, a filmmaker and actor from the working-class town of Wigan in Northern England, developed a passion for cinema early on. His love for film began with visits to the local cinema with his parents and the unique habit of renting VHS tapes from the local "video man," who lent movies from the back of his car. This fascination evolved into creativity when, as a child, Iain started making homemade monster movies using a friend's video camera, toy trains, and a pet hamster.
He pursued his interest academically, studying film and acting through college and university, earning a BA in Film. Iain’s first significant short film, The Jumper, was shot on 16mm and marked the start of a career blending technical expertise with heartfelt storytelling.
Professionally, Iain gained experience as a camera operator on numerous well-known television shows, including Most Haunted and Derren Brown, as well as various commercial projects.
However, filmmaking remained his true passion. He first earned recognition with a series of award-winning comedic shorts before shifting to more serious drama after the 2017 Manchester Arena bombing. His poignant short Forever Manchester depicted the anguish of parents searching for their child amid widespread misinformation. His later works, such as the acclaimed Dear John, I'm Sorry (2020) and the haunting Chapel of Rest (2022), have received awards for directing, writing, and performance at film festivals worldwide. His latest short, The Circle (2025), is currently on the festival circuit, receiving critical praise.
Iain is now working on his first feature-length films: The Bodybuilder, in which he will star and undergo a dramatic physical transformation, and The Ragged Doll. Both projects are grounded, character-driven dramas set in Northern England, reflecting Iain’s roots and cinematic style. With a diverse portfolio spanning comedy, drama, and supernatural themes, Iain Cash continues to create stories that are authentic, evocative, and deeply human.
His films have been shown internationally and acclaimed for their genuine emotion, depth, and compelling visual storytelling.
