Dwayne Adway, affectionately known as DA, is a talented and versatile actor who has earned acclaim for captivating audiences across film and television. His passion and dedication to refining his craft have ensured his lasting success in the industry. His notable film credits include "Into the Blue," "First Daughter," "Friendship," and "Soul Plane." On television, he is recognized for his recurring role as Keith Macklin, the love interest of Kimberly Elise’s character, on CBS’s "Close to Home," along with guest appearances on shows such as "CSI," "NYPD Blue," "Girlfriends," "The Steve Harvey Show," "ER," and "Arli$$." Recently, he completed work on "Vital Signs" for Apple TV, starring and produced by Dr. Dre.
Adway's wide range of characters in film highlights his charm and charisma as a genuine talent. He made a significant impact in Hollywood with his critically praised portrayal of the flamboyant and misunderstood Dennis Rodman in ABC’s telepic "Bad As I Wanna Be: The Dennis Rodman Story." He also holds a strong presence in independent cinema, notable for his roles in "Cloverbend" and as the lead in "100 Kilos," which chronicles the rise and fall of the Freeway Boyz.
Originally from Michigan, Adway did not aspire to act as a child but discovered the profession by chance. He attended Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University on a basketball scholarship, earning a B.S. in Business Administration, then pursued an MBA at Georgia State University. At Georgia State, he took an acting class for fun and soon realized his passion for it, ultimately shifting his focus toward a Master of Fine Arts degree. Inspired by Denzel Washington’s performance in "Mo’ Better Blues," Adway committed to pursuing acting professionally. He performed in several productions at Atlanta’s Alliance Theater, including "Macbeth," "Othello," "Dutchman," and "The Slave." During this period, he also appeared in the indie film "Midnight Edition" and the CBS movie of the week "Complex of Fear." To further his passion, he founded Amethyst Films in 2020—named after his birthstone—to develop films as well as scripted and unscripted TV projects he deeply cares about. He is set to make his directorial debut with "A Summer Love," a screenplay he wrote, planned for release in Summer 2024.
Beyond acting on screen, Adway has lent his voice to campaigns for CK One, Chevy, Cingular Wireless, UPS, Domino’s, and Match, as well as providing scratch vocals for Will Smith in DreamWorks’ "Shark Tale." One of his favorite roles was voicing 50 Cent’s nemesis in the 2005 interactive game "50 Cent: Bulletproof." Outside of acting, Adway enjoys golfing, fishing, cooking, writing poetry, and wine tasting. He is committed to giving back, actively supporting the Elizabeth Glazer Pediatric AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles Homeless Mission. Additionally, he has been a member of the Prince Hall Free and Accepted Masonry Society for 20 years. His diverse music collection spans jazz, classical, country, and hip hop.
