David Boisclair is an award-winning director who has a distinctive artistic vision rooted in the mingling of genres. For over twenty-five years, he has been creating works - both scripted and unscripted - for film and television, skillfully blending a bold visual aesthetic with a modern, impactful narrative approach. After graduating with distinction from the Film Production program at Concordia University’s Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema, and then being invited to join the Television Direction program at the Canadian National Institute of Image and Sound (L’inis), Boisclair embarked on what has become a prolific film and television career that has earned him respect and recognition for his work and achievements in English and French. He has worked on dozens of sets, both on location and in the studio control room, for several national American, British, and Canadian television networks, streamers, and studios. Boisclair is an accomplished and versatile multitasker: his credits include 24 international awards and nominations, more than 500 episodes for over 65 TV productions, ranging from documentaries, comedies, science magazines, and reality TV shows to history magazines, youth programs, TV and streamed specials, and scripted content. The outstanding quality of his work was recognized with two Gémeaux Award nominations from the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television for The Hole in My Head and 19-2 Cases. For the big screen, Boisclair created, directed, wrote, and produced Ladies and Gentlemen, a short film that launched him onto the international stage. This musical, starring 26 seven-year-olds, had its world premiere as the opening film at The World Film Festival and brought home the Audience Award for Best Canadian Short Film. The film went on to have a successful theatrical run and was invited to compete in official competition at numerous international top-tier film festivals. Boisclair also created, directed and produced Destination, a documentary travel series commissioned by Air Canada, three music videos for Canadian recording artist Maggie Szabo, and segments for two TV specials, Love in Action, for KTLA5. In 2021, YouTube Originals commissioned Boisclair to direct an original music video for its special, You Are Everything. Hosted by Sir Elton John and Demi Lovato, the program was nominated the following year in the UK at the Royal Television Society Program Awards. Boisclair is directing Voices, his American Documentary and Animation Film Festival nominated feature documentary concept and Track by Track, an original music documentary series with the National Film Board of Canada. Boisclair is also directing Palm Springs Jump!, an unscripted television series focusing on Elvis Presley mid-century desert retreat’s new recording studio vocation. In Canada, with Babel Films, Boisclair is directing, writing and co-producing both a feature-length documentary and scripted biopic on Quebec’s first idol, Michel Louvain, while he just finished post-producing The Corridor, a live action short film featuring Linda Evans and Linda Gray. Boisclair is a member with full voting privileges of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for its Primetime and Daytime Emmy Awards, and of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television for its Canadian Screen Awards and Gémeaux Awards. On several occasions, both Academies invited him to join their grand juries and juries.
