Shaki Prasanna is a Cinematographer and Director born in Kuwait to Sri Lankan parents. Raised in a family of artists from Colombo, he grew up among immigrant communities in Kuwait, an experience that shaped his sense of identity and storytelling from an early age. In 2015, he moved to Melbourne, Australia, to study film, where he began refining both his technical and creative skills. Alongside formal training, he gained professional experience at Atomos, a global leader in film technology, which provided him with a strong technical foundation to support his filmmaking practice.
Shaki's early projects explored themes of migration, memory, and belonging, blending documentary realism with a surrealist visual style. His debut works on the independent circuit led to collaborations with musicians and grassroots creatives in Melbourne, gradually building his reputation for merging intimacy with bold visual storytelling.
His breakthrough came with Heatwaves, a micro-documentary series highlighting underrepresented voices in Melbourne's creative scene. This was followed by The Pulse of Green - Kaiit, a music documentary commissioned by Converse, and Hassan (2024), a narrative short exploring friendship and betrayal.
In addition to his independent films, Prasanna has worked with brands including Nike, Reebok, Champion, Respect Victoria, and Atomos, and collaborated with artists such as Kaiit, A.Kid, and Cherry Chola. His work continues to explore identity and cultural inheritance, combining personal nuance with striking visual storytelling.
