After graduating from New York University Film School in 1974, Jack Rapke relocated to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. He began in 1975 in the mailroom of the William Morris Agency. Four years later, he joined Creative Artists Agency (CAA), where over the next seventeen years, he advanced to become one of Hollywood’s top agents.
During his seven years as co-chairman of CAA's motion picture department, Rapke built a prestigious client roster that included Jerry Bruckheimer, Ridley Scott, Michael Mann, Harold Ramis, Michael Bay, Terry Gilliam, Bob Gale, Bo Goldman, Steve Kloves, Howard Franklin, Scott Frank, Robert Kamen, John Hughes, Joel Schumacher, Marty Brest, Chris Columbus, Ezra Sacks, and Imagine Entertainment partners Ron Howard and Brian Grazer. He played a key role in developing production companies for his clients and eventually decided to launch his own company with client Robert Zemeckis.
In 1998, Rapke left CAA to co-found ImageMovers with Zemeckis. Focused mainly on theatrical films, their first production was the critically acclaimed Cast Away (2000), directed by Zemeckis and starring Tom Hanks. Rapke went on to produce several successful films including What Lies Beneath (2000) starring Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer, Ridley Scott’s Matchstick Men (2003) starring Nicolas Cage, The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio (2005) with Julianne Moore and Woody Harrelson, and Last Holiday (2006) starring Queen Latifah.
He executive produced The Polar Express (2004), directed by Zemeckis and starring Tom Hanks for Warner Bros., which pioneered modern 3D filmmaking. Other productions include the Oscar-nominated Monster House (2006) for Sony Pictures, Beowulf (2007) starring Anthony Hopkins and Angelina Jolie for Paramount, and A Christmas Carol (2009) starring Jim Carrey and Colin Firth for Walt Disney Studios, both directed by Zemeckis. Rapke also executive produced Real Steel (2011), starring Hugh Jackman and directed by Shawn Levy for DreamWorks.
Rapke produced Flight (2012) for Paramount Pictures, starring Denzel Washington, which earned two Academy Award nominations. He produced The Walk (2015), starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt for Sony Pictures, and executive produced Allied (2016), starring Brad Pitt for Paramount Pictures; all three films were directed by Zemeckis.
He produced Welcome to Marwen (2018) for Universal Pictures starring Steve Carell and The Witches (2020) for Warner Bros. starring Anne Hathaway and Octavia Spencer. Rapke also produced Finch (2021) for DreamWorks/Universal, starring Tom Hanks and directed by Miguel Sapochnik, and Pinocchio (2022) for Disney Studios, directed by Zemeckis, which received a 2023 PGA Award nomination.
In television, Rapke executive produced all three seasons of The Borgias (2011) starring Jeremy Irons for Showtime and the documentary series Medal of Honor (2018) for Netflix. He also executive produced Project Blue Book (2019) for the History Channel, all three seasons of Manifest (2018) for NBC and Warner Bros. Studios, as well as its fourth and final season for Netflix.
Currently, Rapke is producing Here, directed by Robert Zemeckis and starring Tom Hanks, Robin Wright, Paul Bettany, and Kelly Lynch, slated for release in 2024 from Miramax/Sony.
