Lolita Ritmanis is an Emmy® Award-winning composer with ten Emmy nominations and a 2022 Grammy® Award for music production on "Women Warriors: The Voices of Change." In 2025, she reunites with director Dzintars Dreibergs to score the feature film "Escape Net" and celebrates the upcoming release of Timothy Mahoney's feature "The American Miracle." In 2021, Lolita's 70-minute symphonic and choral score for "Blizzard of Souls" was Oscar® shortlisted for Best Score, earning her numerous accolades including the Society of Composers and Lyricists Award for Best Score for an Independent Film, the Hollywood Music in Media Award for Best Score for an International Feature Film, the Alex North Award, the Golden Microphone Award for Best Instrumental Album, and the Big Christopher, Latvia's equivalent of an Academy Award.
As a co-founder of the Alliance for Women Film Composers, she served as president from 2016 to 2018 and is also a founding member of Dynamic Music Partners. Notable works include original scores for Daniel Kreizberg’s "Tahlequah the Whale: A Dance of Grief," Hallmark’s "Christmas in Rome," the documentary "Wild Daze" featuring Jane Goodall, and the gender parity series "Flip the Script" starring Lake Bell. She continues collaborations with Dynamic Music Partners Michael McCuistion and Kristopher Carter on acclaimed projects such as "Babylon 5: The Road Home," "Young Justice," "Batman: The Killing Joke" (featuring Mark Hamill), "Justice League" (her theme received a Primetime Emmy® nomination), "Batman Beyond" (which won an Emmy®), "Teen Titans," "Ben 10," "Batman: The Animated Series," and the Primetime Emmy® nominated musical "Batman: The Brave and the Bold: Mayhem of the Music Meister" starring Neil Patrick Harris.
Her concert compositions have been performed at prestigious venues including Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, Koerner Hall in Toronto, Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco, as well as international festivals like the Krakow International Film Music Festival, Fimucité in Tenerife, and Playfest in Úbeda, Spain. Early in her career, Lolita apprenticed under renowned composers such as Michael Kamen, Basil Poledouris, Mark Snow, and Shirley Walker. Before focusing on composition, she orchestrated more than 100 films, mini-series, and TV programs, including "Lethal Weapon 4," "The X-Files Movie," and "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves." She studied film scoring at the Dick Grove School of Music.
Lolita is on the faculty at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts Screen Scoring Program and has conducted masterclasses and seminars at Columbia College Chicago’s Music Composition for the Screen MFA and Hong Kong Baptist University’s Screen Scoring Program. She is a member of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, the Television Academy, the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, and the Society of Composers and Lyricists. In 2018, she received the BMI Champion Award, followed by the BMI Impact Award in 2022. In 2021, she was honored with Latvia’s highest distinction, The Order of the Three Stars, awarded by the president of Latvia.
