Director John Singleton discovered American actor DeJuan Guy in Los Angeles, California, at Marla Gibb's Crossroads Theater Academy. Impressed by DeJuan's performance in a scene from "A Raisin in the Sun," Singleton invited the young actor to audition for "Boyz N the Hood," which was in pre-production. After filming a scene with Laurence Fishburne, DeJuan became Singleton's top choice for the lead role of "little Tre." However, the studio felt the eight-year-old was too young for the part. DeJuan was ultimately cast in a smaller role that was eventually cut from the film. Despite this, Singleton cast DeJuan again years later. This opportunity launched a busy acting career for DeJuan, with lead roles in major films, television shows, and commercials.
DeJuan's first major film role was as "Jake" in Clive Barker's horror classic "Candyman," starring opposite Virginia Madsen. His other films include "Little Giants," "The Cherokee Kid" with Sinbad and the late Gregory Hines, and "One Man's Justice" alongside former football star Brian Bosworth. DeJuan reunited with John Singleton in the memorable role of "Looney Toon" in the coming-of-age film "Baby Boy." He recalls having the most fun playing the lead role of "Jelani" in the short film "Sweet Potato Ride," written and directed by Camille Tucker and Kim Greene, with Bill Duke as executive producer.
DeJuan's television work began with several episodes of "In Living Color," featuring scenes with Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx, and David Alan Grier. He secured a series regular role on the short-lived sitcom "Rewind," co-starring Scott Baio and Mystro Clark. He was also cast in several pilots, including Aaron Spelling's "Finally Home," co-starring Melissa Gilbert. His numerous TV guest appearances include "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," "Beverly Hills 90210," "Murder One," "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," and "Chicago Hope." He appeared in multiple episodes of "Boy Meets World," "Baywatch," and "Sister, Sister," and had a recurring role on "Boston Public" as Tamyra Gray's love interest.
Born in Dayton, Ohio, DeJuan later moved to Los Angeles, where he attended West Angeles Christian Academy and graduated from the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. He is also an alumnus of SAE Institute, specializing in audio engineering. DeJuan finds great joy singing in the choir at First A.M.E. Church, where he was an active youth leader. His church involvement led to a memorable meeting and conversation with Nelson Mandela, a highlight of his life. DeJuan continues to live by his church's motto, "First to Serve," engaging in community service alongside his Masonic brothers.
