Jeff Roop - Biography
Jeff hails from Montreal, Canada, with a French Canadian mother and a father from the Maritimes. He left law school to pursue theater studies at the Moscow Art Theatre in Russia and Carnegie Mellon University. Soon after, he founded the acclaimed Arbat Theatre Company in Montreal. His first professional acting role was on Guiding Light, followed by a part in Free Money alongside Marlon Brando. Jeff’s first leading role in a series was in Vampire High, which was syndicated globally. He starred in Backcountry opposite Missy Peregrym and Eric Balfour, a film he also executive produced. After premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival, Backcountry became IFC’s top-grossing film of the year, earning a 92% "Fresh" rating and critical praise for both the film and Jeff’s performance.
Recently, Jeff finished filming a recurring role in the Netflix series The Madness, featuring 2024 Academy Award nominee Colman Domingo, set for release in late 2024. His other notable film and TV credits include the acclaimed Quebec film Falcon Lake, which debuted at the Cannes Film Festival; the ESPN feature Codebreakers alongside Scott Glenn; guest appearances on Suits, DC Comics’ Titans, Ransom, CSI: NY, Without a Trace, Numb3rs, Saving Hope, and Frankie Drake; a lead role opposite Katherine Heigl in Critical Assembly; and starring with French comedy stars Florence Foresti and Jamel Debbouze in Hollywoo. Jeff also had recurring roles on CBC’s Heartland and ReGenesis, starred in the CBC series 11 Cameras, and notably portrayed hockey legend Frank Mahovlich in CBC’s Canada-Russia '72.
Jeff co-wrote, produced, and starred in Prairie Dogs, which won Best Canadian Short at the Lakeshorts Film Festival and was an official selection at the New York Television Festival. The project has been optioned as a series titled Northern Lights, with a teleplay penned by Jeff. Beyond acting and writing, Jeff enjoys playing hockey, practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and has a passion for books, film, travel, and electric vehicles.
