Tyler Hynes was born in Toronto, Canada. He is a skilled actor, director, producer, editor, and writer.
Tyler began his professional career at age 8 with a 72-performance run of the musical stage production "A Christmas Carol," followed by a cross-Canada tour of The Who's rock opera "Tommy," where he played 10-year-old Tommy.
Starting in theater, he transitioned to film with his debut feature "Little Men," starring Mariel Hemingway. He has since appeared in numerous television and film projects alongside actors such as Tim Roth, Andie MacDowell, James Franco, Sienna Miller, Henry Cavill, Elliot Page, Billy Bob Thornton, and others.
As a teen, Tyler was nominated as a "fan favorite" while starring in the 24-episode TV series "Tales from the Never Ending Story" as Atreyu, and as "The Chosen One" in "Peter Benchley's Amazon" for 26 episodes.
He earned award nominations for his roles in Disney's "The Other Me" and "Terrorized by Teens: The Jonathan Wamback Story," which depicted the true story of a young man who was bullied, beaten, and left with permanent brain damage. The film attracted major national media attention and sparked anti-bullying town halls and a TV campaign across Canada.
As an adult, Tyler continued honing his craft with regular roles in TV series such as "Saving Hope," "The Firm" (based on John Grisham's novel), the critically acclaimed police drama "19-2," and the Emmy-winning Lifetime series "Unreal." He has also guest-starred on shows including "NCIS," "Flashpoint," "Rookie Blue," "Transporter," and "Star Trek: Discovery," earning award recognition for some performances.
Recently, his portrayal of Sgt. Reece in the WWII feature "Recon" received critical praise. This role contrasts sharply with his rise as one of Hallmark Channel's leading men, where he brings a fresh and distinctive approach to the genre. Simultaneously, he appears on Hulu's breakout comedy series "Letterkenny" as Dierks, the lovable antagonist to the show's star Jared Keeso, who is also Tyler's friend and former co-star in "19-2."
Passionate about filmmaking, Tyler has expanded into directing, writing, and producing. His short film credits include "Help Doug Recycle," a 40-minute documentary about a homeless man struggling with substance abuse while recycling to survive; the dark coming-of-age drama "Firefly"; and "AFK_," a proof of concept funded by Bell Media as part of a TV pitch. "AFK_" received online acclaim and was featured on tastemaker sites such as "Short of the Week."
With growing recognition behind the camera, Tyler began directing music videos for multi-platinum and Grammy-winning artists. He wrote, directed, produced, and edited over a dozen music videos for artists including Grammy-nominated Shaun Frank and Coachella headliner Rezz. These videos have been featured on Billboard and nominated at award shows like the Much Music Video Awards.
From WWII dramas to unique comedies, romantic fan favorites to impactful work behind the lens, Tyler Hynes enjoys a rare diversity in the entertainment industry.
