Raised in Orlando, Florida, Alex Cole grew up making movies with friends and playing music-two passions that deeply shaped his creative perspective. From a young age, he discovered a talent for editing and storytelling through the camera, often rallying friends to help bring his ideas to life. Filmmaking quickly became his way of connecting with others and expressing his imagination.
After college, he created the band Haze Over Hollywood, pursuing music professionally while continuing to nurture his love for film. He maintained a close creative partnership with longtime friend Matt Del Bene, co-directing and editing the 2015 indie film River Money. The experience reignited his passion for cinema and reminded him why he fell in love with the medium-it connected him to his youth, his imagination, and a belief that anything is possible.
Together, he and Del Bene went on to direct several music videos, including Ghost, which was nominated for Best Music Video at the Orlando Film Festival in 2017. In 2020, the two moved in together during the pandemic, using the time to collaborate on new ideas. This led to the 2021 short film Distress Signal, which received a nomination for Best Short Film at the Orlando Film Festival.
Following that project, Alex Cole began developing his first feature film, drawing inspiration from his friendship with Del Bene and their shared creative process. What began as a 255-page draft was eventually refined into a tightly focused 90-page script. Filming began in early 2024 and wrapped in early 2025.
That film, Movie Day, is slated for release in late 2025. A deeply personal project, it serves as a tribute to his childhood, lifelong creative journey, and the enduring power of imagination. Cole wrote, directed, edited, and independently produced the film, alongside producers Matt Del Bene and Ramsey Clark.
