Born at 27 Byron Street, Cwmaman, Aberdare, Glamorgan, Wales, UK, he was the son of Evan Edwin Jones and Olwen Jones (née Evans). He attended Cwmaman Elementary School from 1930 to 1935 and Aberdare County School for Boys from 1935 to 1942, serving as Head Boy in 1941-1942. He studied at the London School of Economics between 1942 and 1944. From 1944 to 1950, he worked as a journalist, first as a reporter and then as Features Editor for "News Review." Between 1950 and 1957, he was a journalist at "Radio Times," initially assisting the Literary Editor before becoming Television Editor. From 1957 to 1966, he worked at BBC Television as a producer and scriptwriter, progressing through roles including Administrator to Head of Drama, Deputy Head of Documentary Drama, Assistant Head of Drama, and Head of Drama Series. Between 1966 and 1982, he freelanced as a television writer for BBC and ITV, a crime writer producing novelizations of TV scripts and documentary books, and a journalist contributing to the London "Sunday Telegraph," Cardiff "Western Mail," and others. He served on the Welsh Arts Council Drama Committee and was a Drama Adjudicator at the 1968 National Eisteddfod in Barry, Glamorgan. In 1966, he was co-nominated for The Mystery Writers Of America Edgar Allan Poe Award for the book "The Last Two To Hang." He passed away at Blaeneinon, Pont Sian, Llandysul, Cardiganshire, Wales, UK. His funeral was held on 22 May 1982 at Morriston Crematorium, Swansea, Wales.
