George Katt, an award-winning and versatile actor, was born and raised in New York City. He began his training and career on the city's theatre stages.
His dedication to acting and his talent for embodying diverse characters have brought him success in film and television, earning him awards and recognition at prominent film festivals. He has played a wide range of leading and character roles.
In 2008, Katt received the Best Breakthrough Actor Award at the NY International Independent Film Festival for his lead role opposite Danny Trejo in the feature film Valley of Angels. He portrayed Zachary Andrews, a street-smart Los Angeles peddler seeking escape from a challenging life, delivering a nuanced and immersive performance marked by vulnerability and complexity.
On television, Katt has guest-starred on popular series such as NBC's Blindspot, CBS' Blue Bloods, and CBS' Unforgettable. He has also appeared in recurring and guest roles on HBO, CBS, WB, ABC, NBC, FOX, A&E, Comedy Central, IFC, and Showtime.
In film, Katt has taken on leading and strong supporting roles in award-winning productions distributed both domestically and internationally, spanning independent projects and studio releases across various genres.
His starring roles include the acclaimed Alienated opposite the late Taylor Negron; House of Bodies, where he played the son of Oscar-nominated Peter Fonda alongside Terrence Howard and Queen Latifah; Percentage, featuring Ving Rhames, Macy Gray, Omar Gooding, and produced by Queen Latifah; and other award-winning films such as Turnabout with Peter Greene and Waylon Payne, The Maladjusted, In Montauk, Red Sheep, In the Gray with Lee Arenberg and Martin Klebba, Red Right Return with Leo Fitzpatrick, Inside Llewyn Davis with John Goodman directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, Bastards of Young with Lucy Walters and Jessica Rothe, and Darkest Before Dawn produced by Jay Z.
Upcoming feature films set for worldwide release and film festival showings include Broadway 4D directed by Bryan Singer and Gary Goddard, starring Hugh Jackman, Lea Salonga, and Christina Aguilera; Swinger with Mille Dinesen from the hit show Rita; as well as Boundary, Leaving Hope, Turned Out, and Benji the Dove with Lynn Cohen.
Katt appeared in Martin Scorsese's The Irishman alongside Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, recently completed filming the lead role of Jack Riley in the drama Imitate the Sun, and is preparing to star in Embracing the Sunrise, a drama inspired by true events from 1969 opposite Oscar-nominee Sally Kellerman.
In his free time, Katt enjoys reading, writing, boxing training—following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather who were professional boxers—filmmaking, playing guitar, composing music, and volunteering with organizations that assist children and the homeless, including Food Bank 4 NYC, No Kid Hungry, and The Bowery Mission. He also supports nonprofit cancer research initiatives.
Having lost his father to cancer, Katt dedicates his work and life outlook to honoring his father's artistry, spirit, and memory.
George is the Founder and Artistic Director of The Indies Lab in NYC, a multicultural ensemble of seasoned actors, writers, directors, and filmmakers committed to artistic excellence, creative exploration, and the development of vital new works in independent cinema, television, and theatre.
