Roxzane T. Mims is an American actress and director based in Atlanta, Georgia, who works in television, film, and theater. Her name is pronounced "Rock-zon," not "Rocks-Ann," a detail her mother was insistent on. Mims was raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, after her family relocated there from Detroit. Her mother, Catherine Barrow Williams, was an opera singer who chose to raise her daughters rather than pursue a demanding career that would have kept her away for years. Instead, she frequently performed in community theater, including productions of Madame Butterfly and A Raisin in the Sun that featured professionals from New York. Watching her mother perform sparked Mims' interest in acting, leading her to participate in school plays, community theater, and local commercials. She moved to Atlanta and has been involved in the local acting scene since 1989.
Her television credits include recurring roles such as Darlene on Greenleaf, as well as appearances on Being Mary Jane, Dynasty, Doom Patrol, BMF, Will Trent, Sweet Magnolias (as Sondra Whitley), Reasonable Doubt (as Patricia Stewart), and Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist. In film, she has appeared in The Sound of Christmas opposite Ne Yo and Serayah, Mosaic (as Ruth Anderson)—a role she describes as one of her most challenging due to the character's coldness contrasting with her own personality—Duplicity, Rumors Salon, Hubcap, and starred in the independent film Short Term. Mims has also directed several 48-hour film projects and the short film Five Smooth Stones, which is used as an anti-bullying educational tool in schools. She credits her faith and strong personal support system for sustaining her through difficult times. A grandmother, whom she affectionately calls "Neene," Mims names Meryl Streep, Angela Bassett, Viola Davis, and Denzel Washington among the actors she most hopes to work with.
