Biographie
Brooks Wachtel grew up as a "Navy Brat," traveling extensively around the world. By his teenage years, he was certain he wanted a career in the motion picture industry. While attending Hollywood High School and later USC and UCLA, he created several student films. One notable work, impressive for a sixteen-year-old, was a forty-five-minute Sherlock Holmes parody set in period.
Mr. Wachtel is a writer, producer, and director who has contributed to numerous documentaries for the History Channel. His latest project, in collaboration with documentary partner Cynthia Harrison, includes two episodes of the series Guarding America: The Air Force/National Guard and The Coast Guard. He has also written for The Great Ships, Search and Rescue, The Royal Navy, and Fly Past, which earned the prestigious Cine Golden Eagle Award.
Beyond documentaries, Wachtel has written over 85 episodes of dramatic television across a wide range of shows—from Fox's live-action Young Hercules to acclaimed animated series like PBS's Liberty's Kids, as well as popular Saturday morning action programs such as Heavy Gear, Static, Spider-Man, X-Men, Iron Man, RoboCop, Silver Surfer, The Avengers, Mortal Kombat, The Mask, Beast Machines: Transformers, Godzilla, Gargoyles, and Wing Commander Academy. For younger audiences, he has written numerous episodes of the preschool favorite Clifford the Big Red Dog. Recently, he completed the script for the animated feature Sea Wars, an American-Korean underwater epic reminiscent of Lord of the Rings. He has also penned several live-action feature films, including Goddess of Death, which he directed.
Currently, he serves on the Steering Committee of the Animation Writers Caucus of the Writers Guild of America. Wachtel is also a performing magician and a member of Hollywood's Magic Castle. As co-creator, along with Athena Massey, of the superheroine "Athena: Warrior Eternal," and a lifelong comics enthusiast, Wachtel never imagined that the countless hours he spent reading comics would one day be considered research.
