Reggie Gaskins is a dynamic and visionary storyteller whose multifaceted career as a filmmaker, writer, director, producer, actor, and stand-up comedian has left a significant mark on the entertainment industry for over twenty years. Raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he began his artistic journey at the esteemed Freedom Theatre, where he refined his skills as a playwright and built a solid foundation in film and television writing and directing. After moving to Los Angeles, Gaskins achieved early success with his first television pilot, ABC's innovative improv series Go Sick. Initially cast as an actor, his sharp comedic timing and improvisation led him to write much of his own material and numerous sketches for the show, quickly establishing himself as both a skilled performer and writer.
Gaskins’ emergence as an independent filmmaker was confirmed with his debut feature, Restraining Order, which he wrote, produced, directed, and starred in alongside Robin Givens, James Avery, and Sean Blakemore. The film earned him an NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Writing of a Feature Film, was the centerpiece selection at the 2006 Pan African Film Festival, and won Best Picture at the 2006 Hollywood Black Film Festival. Throughout his career, Gaskins has continued to expand his impressive portfolio as a writer, producer, director, and actor. His feature films include Because We're Done (Amazon Prime), Our Christmas Love Story, and the award-winning courtroom drama The Lying Truth (both streaming on Peacock). He recently completed production on TMI, which began as an award-winning short film on Tubi, and is currently in post-production on the thriller Commandment X. His dramatic love story Can This Love Last? is in pre-production.
As an actor, Gaskins’ recent roles include a memorable performance as Reverend Jones in the Netflix hit Ms. Governor and the lead role in The Handy Man, written and directed by Tangie Miller. He was also chosen to direct the coming-of-age feature Deadbeat, starring Vanessa Simmons and Omar Gooding, further solidifying his reputation as a versatile and trusted filmmaker. Beyond film and television, Gaskins is an accomplished stand-up comedian who has performed at renowned venues such as The Comedy Store, The Laugh Factory, and The Comedy Chateau in Los Angeles; Carolines in New York; and Uptown Comedy Corner in Atlanta. His sharp wit, relatable humor, and commanding stage presence continue to grow his national fan base.
Committed to giving back, Gaskins has spent the past 14 years teaching acting and screenwriting to foster youth through the nonprofit Kids in the Spotlight, helping young people build confidence, creativity, and purpose through the arts.
