Biographie
Robert Alvarez is an American animator, television director, and writer who began his career as an assistant animator on the 1968 film Yellow Submarine, featuring The Beatles. He has since contributed to numerous animated TV series, including Super Friends (1973), The Smurfs (1981), G.I. Joe: The M.A.S.S. Device (1983), A Pup Named Scooby-Doo (1988), Swat Kats: The Radical Squadron (1993), Dexter's Laboratory (1996), I Am Weasel (1997), The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy (2001), The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (1988), and Regular Show (2010). Alvarez also created and wrote two animated pilots, Pizza Boy in No Tip (1996) and Tumbleweed Tex in School Daze (1996), for Hanna-Barbera's What a Cartoon! shorts showcase.
He attended Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, California, from 1962 to 1966 and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in animation from the Chouinard Art Institute (now California Institute of the Arts) in 1971.
Alvarez has received six Primetime Emmy Awards, 20 Primetime Emmy nominations, and one Daytime Emmy nomination. His first Emmy nomination was in 1994 for Outstanding Animated Program (Programming One Hour or Less) as director of The Town Santa Forgot (1993). In 2000 and 2001, he earned nominations for Beat Your Greens/Down 'n Dirty (1999) and Moral Decay/Meet the Beat-Alls (2000), followed by a 2004 nomination for The Powerpuff Girls episode 'Twas the Fight Before Christmas (2003). He won two Primetime Emmys for his work on Genndy Tartakovsky's Star Wars: Clone Wars (2003), including Episode XXXVII - The Birth of Evil: Part I and Episode XXXVIII - The Birth of Evil: Part II. In 2006, Alvarez received nominations for Go Goo Go (2005) and My Life as a Teenage Robot: Escape from Cluster Prime (2005). Another nomination came in 2007 for Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends episode "Good Wilt Hunting" (2006), before winning a Primetime Emmy in 2009 for Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends: Destination Imagination (2008). In 2010, he was nominated for Outstanding Short-format Animated Program for the animated short Pilot. He won a Primetime Emmy in 2012 for Eggscellent (2012), after a nomination for the same in 2011. His Daytime Emmy nomination was in 2007 for The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy in the category Outstanding Broadband Program - Children's.
