Z-Trip is widely regarded as one of the greatest live performance DJs in history by both fans and peers. In 2009, fans voted him "America's Best DJ," surpassing over 100 other DJs in DJ Times' prestigious readers' poll. Often called the "godfather of mash-ups," he is recognized as one of the pioneers of the genre. His sold-out shows worldwide continue to break attendance records and receive critical acclaim.
Since Coachella 2002, he has toured extensively, earning rave reviews. He made his fourth appearance at Coachella in 2010, headlining the Sahara Tent. His recent performance at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival, attended by over 10,000 fans, was a highlight of the event and garnered significant media attention. Most Friday nights, he holds a residency at Rain inside The Palms, Las Vegas, titled "Z-Trip's Revolution," where he amazes audiences with his genre-blending skills and surprise guest appearances from artists like Too Short, De La Soul, Rev Run, and Three 6 Mafia.
While many DJs would be content with worldwide sold-out shows, Z-Trip's career extends far beyond that. He should not be labeled a celebrity DJ, as his achievements as a producer and artist are substantial. In 2009, he was featured as an in-game character in DJ Hero, contributing several original remixes and tracks. His 2009 album "Victory Lap," a tribute to Obama, sold over 500,000 copies and received positive reviews from Wired, Urb, BPM, and XLR8R, among others. The album's artwork was created by his longtime friend and collaborator Shepard Fairey.
Z-Trip's major label debut, "Shifting Gears," earned four stars from Rolling Stone in 2005, the magazine's highest rating. The album included Top 10 singles in the US and internationally and featured collaborations with friends such as Chuck D, Chester Bennington of Linkin Park, Murs, and Soup of Jurassic 5.
His first acclaimed record, "Uneasy Listening," propelled Z-Trip to national prominence in 2002. It appeared on album of the year lists in Spin, Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, Wired, and XLR8R.
