Axel Kuschevatzky is an experienced film producer with over 80 feature film credits.
In November 2019, he joined forces with producers Phin Glynn and Cindy Teperman to establish Infinity Hill, a production company based in Los Angeles, London, and Buenos Aires, dedicated to developing and producing feature films and television series. Their early projects include "The Doorman," featuring Ruby Rose and Jean Reno, directed by Ryûhei Kitamura; the Berlin Film Festival contender "The Intruder"; and the successful BBC One series "Staged," starring David Tennant and Michael Sheen.
Kuschevatzky has a rich background in film journalism, television production, and scriptwriting. He served as associate producer for Juan José Campanella's acclaimed film "The Secret in Their Eyes" (El Secreto de sus ojos, 2009), which won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 2010. The film broke a 35-year ticket sales record in Argentina with over 2.5 million admissions and attracted 1 million viewers in Spain. It also earned two Goya Awards for Best Latin-American Picture and Best Newcomer Actress (Soledad Villamil), alongside seven additional nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director. Other accolades include nine Clarín Awards (including Best Picture), thirteen Sur Awards from the Argentine Academy of Motion Pictures, five awards at the Havana Film Festival (including the Audience Award), and an Ariel nomination for Best Spanish-Speaking Feature from the Mexican Academy of Arts and Cinematographic Sciences. Sony Pictures released the film in the U.S., and it was sold to more than 15 countries, including the UK, Germany, Taiwan, Brazil, Mexico, France, and Italy.
He was also associate producer on "The Widows of Thursdays" (Las Viudas de Los Jueves, 2009), a thriller directed by Marcelo Piñeyro based on Claudia Piñeiro's bestseller, starring Pablo Echarri, Leonardo Sbaraglia, and Ernesto Alterio. Additionally, he produced the animated film "Plumíferos - Aventuras Voladores" (2010), the first feature created using open-source software, with voice performances by Luisana Lopilato and Mariano Martínez.
In March 2009, Kuschevatzky became head of film production at Telefé, Argentina's largest television network.
Since 2004, he has co-hosted CNN/TNT's Latin American Oscar preshow alongside Ana Maria Montero, reaching an audience of over 120 million viewers across the region, from Puerto Rico to Tierra del Fuego.
Born in Buenos Aires' Almagro neighborhood in October 1972, Kuschevatzky grew up with a mother who was a child psychologist and a father who was a pediatrician and pianist.
He studied copywriting and appeared as a teenager on television, participating in a quiz show segment about horror movies.
He later hosted the weekly movie series Cine Bizarro on local cable channel CV 5 and took part in the prestigious interview program "Los Hacedores," which focused on performing and visual arts.
Kuschevatzky identifies as a movie reporter rather than a film critic, describing himself as a passionate cinephile.
He has hosted numerous film-related shows in Argentina, including "Alucine" (América TV), "Cinescape" (CVN), "Apasionados: El especial" (2002), "Telefé Cortos," as well as weekly series like "Terrormania" and "Nosotros También Nos Equivocamos" (both on Telefé). He has also presented Oscar specials for Canal 9 and contributed film features for "América Noticias," "Telefé Noticias," "Zoo" (América TV), and "Maru a la Tarde" (Telefé), in addition to conducting interviews and TV specials.
He has interviewed renowned filmmakers such as Martin Scorsese, Woody Allen, Clint Eastwood, James Cameron, George Lucas, Sam Raimi, M. Night Shyamalan, John Woo, and John Lasseter. His interviews also include actors like Nicolas Cage, Christian Slater, Anthony Hopkins, Cate Blanchett, Joaquin Phoenix, Willem Dafoe, Kurt Russell, Ewan McGregor, Will Smith, Viggo Mortensen, Chris O'Donnell, Adam West, Martin Landau, Robin Williams, Danny DeVito, Edward Norton, Dustin Hoffman, Samuel L. Jackson, Liam Neeson, Hugh Jackman, Tom Hanks, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Richard Harris, Sharon Stone, Hugh Grant, Sandra Bullock, Mark Wahlberg, Guy Pearce, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Keanu Reeves, Sean Connery, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Matt Damon, among many others.
He co-adapted the scripts for "La Niñera," based on the American hit show "The Nanny." This was the first sitcom produced in Latin America, co-produced by Sony and Telefé Contenidos, and won the Clarín Award for Best TV Comedy in 2004. For the same companies, he co-adapted "Married with Children" into the highly successful "Casados Con Hijos," which received the Martín Fierro Award for Best Comedy in 2005 and was also nominated for the Clarín Award. Both sitcoms aired in Venezuela, Spain, Peru, and Puerto Rico.
He served as Telefé's head producer for "Fear Factor" (Factor Miedo).
Kuschevatzky also appeared in minor roles in short and feature films such as "Ceibo y Taba" (2002), "Plan" (2000), "Graciadió" (1997), and "No seas cruel" (1996) — both directed by Raúl Perrone — as well as "Who Is Alejandro Chomski?" (2002), alongside Emir Kusturica, Julie Delpy, and Jim Jarmusch, and the telefilm "Manos libres - El caso del bebé de los Perales" (2005), directed by Carlos Sorín.
He provided the voice of the character "Jay Limo" in the Argentine Spanish dub of "Cars" (2006).
He was interviewed for the documentary "Biography - Adam West: Behind the Cowl" (2000) for the U.S. cable network A&E.
Since 1995, Kuschevatzky has been editor and publisher of "La Cosa," the longest-running Spanish-language film magazine of its kind.
He has contributed articles to newspapers such as "Clarín," "La Nación," and "El Cronista Comercial," as well as magazines including "Playboy," "Miradas," "Veintitrés," "RSVP," "Madhouse," and "El Lápiz Japonés," among others.
His radio experience includes programs like "El León de la Metro," with Bebé Sanzo and Ronnie Arias; "La Cornisa," with Luis Majul; and "Cambio de Aire," with Román Lejtman.
He also conducted research for the books "Un Diccionario de Cine Argentino" and "Un Diccionario de Cine Argentino, Volumen 2," authored by Raúl Manrupe and María Alejandra Portela.
Kuschevatzky received the TEA Estímulo journalism award, has served as a jury member for the Clarín Cine Awards, acted as a film and creative consultant for Telefé since 2000, and was a juror for the 3rd Festival Nacional De Cine Con Vecinos in Saladillo.
He currently resides in Los Angeles, California, with his wife, son, and daughter.
