Biografi
Maria Kallimani was born in Aigio, Greece. She graduated from Athens University with a degree in Archaeology and History of Art and completed her studies at the "Empros" Theatre Drama School in 1996. She is fluent in English and French. Maria has worked with prominent directors in independent theater, at the National Theater, and at the Athens and Epidaurus Festival.
Her film credits include: Homeland, directed by Syllas Tzoumerkas, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2010; Knifer, directed by Yiannis Economides (2010), for which she received a Best Actress nomination at the Hellenic Film Academy; The Eternal Return of Antonis Paraskevas, directed by Elina Psykou, which premiered at the Berlinale 2012; At Home (Nadia), directed by Thanassis Karanikolas, premiered at Berlinale 2014 and won the Ecumenical Prize for Best Film, with Maria awarded Best Actress at the Hellenic Film Academy in 2015; Interruption, directed by Giorgos Zois, which premiered at the Venice International Film Festival Horizons 2015; Suntan, directed by Argyris Papadimitropoulos (2014), premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2017; South, directed by Tassos Boulmetis (2015), earning her another Best Actress nomination at the Hellenic Film Academy; The Surface of Things, directed by Nancy Biniadaki (2016); The Waiter, directed by Steve Krikris (2018); Fugue, a 2019 short film directed by Laura Neri; Memoir of a Veering Storm, a 2020 short film directed by Sofia Georgovassili, which premiered at the Berlinale 2022 in the Generation 14 Plus section; 11:20, a 2021 short film directed by Dimitris Nakos; Ekei pou Zoume, directed by Sotiris Goritsas (2022), for which she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Hellenic Film Academy; Brando with a Glass Eye, directed by Antonis Tsonis, premiered at the Slamdance Film Festival 2024; and Meat, directed by Dimitris Nakos (2023), set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival 2024. She has also appeared in various television series.
