Biografi
Sutan Amrull was born in Baldwin Park, California, on June 14, 1974. When he was three, his family relocated to Indonesia, his father's homeland, where they lived until he was nine before returning to the United States.
At sixteen, Amrull developed an interest in the drag scene by visiting various Los Angeles nightclubs with friends, drawing significant inspiration from the goth and punk subcultures that later defined his drag persona. He attended university for two years, initially studying art before shifting focus to a career in makeup artistry.
In 2011, Amrull won the third season of RuPaul's Drag Race. His drag persona, Raja Gemini, is regarded as one of the show's most popular contestants, praised for exceptional fashion sense and runway skills. Amrull is also recognized as a prominent makeup artist on America's Next Top Model, contributing from cycles four through twelve. His celebrity clients include Tyra Banks, Iman, Dita Von Teese, RuPaul, and Pamela Anderson.
Since 2014, he has co-hosted a weekly YouTube series, RuPaul's Drag Race Fashion Photo Ruview, on WowPresents' channel alongside fellow contestant Raven. In 2018, he appeared as himself on The Simpsons episode "Werking Mom," featuring RuPaul.
Beyond television, Amrull has explored music, releasing his debut single as Raja, "Diamond Crowned Queen," which reached number thirty-five on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart. He followed with additional singles in 2012 and 2013. In 2014, Raja performed a lip-sync duet with Manila Luzon at the Drag Race Battle of the Seasons. He also appeared in the music video for Blondie's 2017 single, "Fun."
Amrull has featured in Diesel's "Make Love Not Walls" campaign and an Urban Decay campaign alongside drag queens Alaska Thunderfuck, Jiggly Caliente, and Katya Zamolodchikova. In June 2019, he appeared on the cover of New York Magazine with 37 other drag queens.
