Harvey Reaves is an American actor from Bolivar, Tennessee. While many teens aspired to be athletes or musicians, Harvey was focused on becoming a distinguished voiceover artist. His parents, who owned a nightclub in West Tennessee called Dr. Boogie's (later renamed The Pleasure Time Club), were his first voiceover clients. Starting at age 15, Harvey wrote and voiced all their commercials. During his time at the University of Tennessee, he developed an interest in acting. A dedicated student, he took numerous theatre classes during the day and evening acting classes at a local Knoxville theatre. He became the first person in his family, on both his mother’s and father’s sides, to graduate from college—a milestone that marked many more firsts to come. Two days before graduation, he was offered a position at Knoxville’s U-102 radio station, becoming their first Black DJ. Working the nighttime shift allowed him to dedicate his days to acting. Harvey began his acting career as a spokesperson for various companies in Knoxville, Nashville, and Atlanta, appearing in TV commercials and industrial films used for corporate training. In many cases, he was the first Black spokesperson these companies had hired. He later moved to Atlanta’s Peach 94.9 radio station, again becoming the first Black primetime DJ there. Atlanta’s growing TV and film industry gave him opportunities to expand his acting career. Eventually, he relocated to Los Angeles, where he quickly secured roles in television, film, commercials, and voiceovers. His commanding presence, physical stature, and trustworthy voice make him well-suited to portray authority figures such as police officers, doctors, and military personnel.
