Perseverance, talent, and attitude are essential in the entertainment industry, qualities exemplified by character actor Dennis Jay Funny. As a Gemini and twin, Dennis kept his real last name—Funny—to bring smiles genuinely. Everything Dennis Jay Funny (also known as D.J. Funny) undertakes is approached with seriousness.
His father, Stephen, studied Civil Engineering at NYU and started his career as a project engineer on the World Trade Center construction team. Dennis’s mother, Rudi, designed, sewed, and fitted the custom dress worn by the Miss North Carolina pageant winner who competed in Miss America.
Dennis and his twin brother, known as the Funny Twins, were born while their father was stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Tacoma, Washington. They grew up in Westchester, New York. Dennis enjoyed high school immensely, attending Alexander Hamilton High School, where he was voted "most popular" and "class clown" in his senior year and served as captain of both the football and math teams.
Excelling in math, Dennis scored perfectly in Algebra, 95% in Geometry, and 97% in Trigonometry on his New York State Regents exams. This achievement earned him a scholarship to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (rpi.edu) in Troy, New York, where he studied Civil Engineering.
Director Oliver Stone recognized Dennis’s acting range in his debut film, the sports drama "Any Given Sunday." Stone also cast him in the opening scene of his "World Trade Center" movie, where Dennis appears on a subway platform the morning of September 11th.
A longtime promoter of underground events in New York City, Dennis has built a loyal following thanks to his friendly nature. A frequent traveler, he has formed positive connections worldwide.
Once a Wall Street professional, Dennis has devoted his life to inspiring others. The only trace of his corporate past is a signature trail of cigar smoke, although he says he is cutting back. When asked about the future, he replies, "Who knows? Anything can happen. Life is a wild ride!
