Biografi
A graduate of Ithaca College with honors, Muir furthered his studies at Georgetown University and the University of Salamanca in Spain. Before his time at ABC, he built a strong reputation in local news at WCVB-TV in Boston and WTVH-TV in his hometown of Syracuse, New York.
David Muir serves as the anchor and managing editor of ABC's "World News Tonight with David Muir," which holds the title of the most-watched evening news program in the United States. He also co-anchors the news magazine "20/20." Throughout his career, Muir has received multiple accolades, including Emmy® Awards and Edward R. Murrow Awards. His international journalism has also been recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists. For his impactful reporting on climate issues, he has earned prestigious honors such as the George Polk Award and the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Award. In 2024, Muir was the recipient of the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism.
Over the past two decades with ABC News, Muir has covered major global events, reporting from countries like Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Ukraine, Egypt, Somalia, Gaza, Cuba, and others. His on-the-ground coverage has brought key global developments to U.S. audiences.
Muir is known for securing exclusive interviews with influential leaders around the world. He spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv during a critical phase of Ukraine's conflict with Russia, and was the first U.S. anchor to interview him after the war began. He has also conducted numerous interviews with U.S. presidents. Notably, he questioned President Joe Biden in late 2021 about the country's readiness for a COVID-19 surge, and in 2023 and 2024, conducted high-profile interviews on issues including the Ukraine war and the legal troubles of Hunter Biden.
He has also interviewed former Presidents Donald Trump and Barack Obama at pivotal moments, including the early days of Trump's administration and Obama's historic visit to Cuba. Additionally, Muir moderated significant town halls and presidential debates, including the only debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.
His documentary work includes powerful features such as "The Children of the Floods" in South Sudan and "The Children of Climate Change" in Madagascar. These pieces have spotlighted climate-driven humanitarian crises and helped raise millions for global relief efforts.
Muir's reporting on Holocaust survivors returning to Auschwitz, as well as World War II veterans revisiting Normandy, earned critical acclaim and awards.
