Biografi
Stefanos Miltsakakis was born on August 3, 1959, in Provatonas, a small village near Alexandroupoli in northern Greece. Raised in a tough environment where children often fought and wrestled, he moved with his family to the United States in 1973, settling in a shared studio apartment with another Greek family in Charlotte, North Carolina. None of them spoke English, and as a teenager, Stefanos faced ostracism due to his background, struggling to fit in with local youth.
After encountering some trouble, his high school free-fighting coach encouraged him to join the school team. He earned a scholarship to the State University of North Carolina and competed as part of the All-Americans team. In 1984, at 24, he was selected for Greece's Olympic team, but a knee injury just before the games ended his Olympic hopes and led him to consider a career in film. In 1989, he landed a small role in Albert Pyun’s movie Cyborg, where he worked alongside Jean-Claude Van Damme. He later moved to Los Angeles and built a career playing minor roles, particularly in martial arts films alongside Van Damme.
Miltsakakis was also a formidable real-life fighter, weighing 220 lbs (100 kg). On September 27, 1999, he competed in the 9th Vale Tudo World Championship, defeating Judoka Joe Charles in 8 minutes and 38 seconds, setting a personal record. In 2002, he won against Mariano Mendoza at the 14th Vale Tudo, finishing with a 2-0-0 record. He was also a world champion in Pagration, an ancient Greek sport blending wrestling and boxing. After retiring in 2011, he opened a gym in Venice, California.
Stefanos Miltsakakis passed away in his sleep on January 10, 2019, at age 59 in Santa Monica, California. He was laid to rest in Greece beside his father.
