Nicolas Chartier, an Academy Award-winning producer known for The Hurt Locker, has played a key role in financing, producing, and distributing over 500 films. In 2005, he established Voltage Pictures, a Los Angeles-based company specializing in international financing, sales, and production.
Voltage's first in-house production, The Hurt Locker, won six Academy Awards in 2009, including Best Picture. Their second production was Killer Joe, directed by William Friedkin and starring Matthew McConaughey. In 2013, Chartier executive produced Dallas Buyers Club, earning McConaughey the Academy Award for Best Actor and Jared Leto for Best Supporting Actor. His production credits also include The Company You Keep, directed by and starring Robert Redford alongside Shia LaBeouf; The Zero Theorem, directed by Terry Gilliam and starring Christoph Waltz; Don Jon, directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and featuring Scarlett Johansson and Julianne Moore; Good Kill, directed by Andrew Niccol and starring Ethan Hawke; Fathers and Daughters, with Russell Crowe, Amanda Seyfried, and Aaron Paul; I.T., starring Pierce Brosnan; and he served as executive producer on A Tale of Love and Darkness, written, directed, and starring Natalie Portman, which was an official selection at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.
More recent projects include I Feel Pretty, starring Amy Schumer and Michelle Williams, which earned nearly $100 million globally; Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, starring Zac Efron and Lily Collins, which premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival; After, featuring Josephine Langford and Hero Fiennes-Tiffin and based on Anna Todd's worldwide bestseller; and Eve, starring Jessica Chastain, Colin Farrell, John Malkovich, Common, and Geena Davis, currently in post-production.
Chartier's earlier productions include Colossal, starring Anne Hathaway and Jason Sudeikis, and Family Man, featuring Gerard Butler, both of which premiered at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival. He was also executive producer on Taylor Sheridan's directorial debut Wind River, starring Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen, which debuted to critical acclaim at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival and grossed over $45 million worldwide.
Before founding Voltage Pictures, Chartier held several executive roles in sales and acquisitions, facilitating the international sales of major titles such as the box office hit My Big Fat Greek Wedding and Paul Haggis' Academy Award-winning film Crash.
