Karen Bailey is an entertainment professional based in Los Angeles. She has experience as a film and television producer, as well as a studio and network executive. Currently, she serves as Senior Vice President of Original Programming for Starz Entertainment. Her debut indie feature, BACHELORMAN, was released in 2003 and earned numerous audience and critic awards on the independent film circuit. Her second film, SANDS OF OBLIVION, was acquired by IDT Entertainment and sold to NBC/Universal, leading to a multi-picture development deal with the SyFy channel and Anchor Bay Entertainment. During this time, IDT launched a studio division and Bailey joined as an in-house Executive Producer, managing a slate of low-budget films for domestic and international distribution. In 2007, Starz Media acquired IDT Entertainment and invited Bailey to join as Vice President of Production. Over the following years, she oversaw numerous MOWs and television series for external networks like Lifetime and IFC, while helping to expand Starz's newly launched Original Programming division. Karen managed production of the company’s first one-hour drama, CRASH (co-produced with Lionsgate), and its first international production, SPARTACUS, filmed in New Zealand. Later that year, the studio expanded into half-hour shows with PARTY DOWN and HEADCASE. In 2010, the company restructured, ending contracts with outside networks to focus on building its own branded content. Under the new Starz Entertainment banner, Bailey was named Head of Production and worked to grow the company’s international presence by establishing productions in Canada and the UK, while exploring filming opportunities in China, Eastern Europe, and South Africa. In this role, she collaborated more closely with creative teams and transitioned to Development as Vice President of Original Programming, overseeing creative development of several domestic and international projects, including MAGIC CITY and THE WHITE QUEEN. Promoted to Senior Vice President in 2012, she currently oversees OUTLANDER, THE MISSING (a co-production with the BBC), and Starz’s first docu-series, THE CHAIR.
