Johanna Thea's acting is marked by authenticity and a playful spirit. Born in Westminster and raised on Ireland’s West Coast, she identifies as culturally Irish but has Jamaican, Indian, Swiss, and English heritage. The first actor in her family, she is the daughter of a professional international dancer and singer, and a teacher and charity worker.
Primarily focused on film, Johanna earned an Honourable Mention for Best Actress at the Independent Short Awards (LA, 2022) for her role in the thriller "Disquiet." She was also shortlisted for Best Actress in a Web-Series by Screennation (2018) for her portrayal of Eva in the British indie thriller "Resolve."
Her earlier work includes the mental health awareness film "Struggle," which won several awards. Her Irish debut, "When Next Possible Taka a U-Turn," was shortlisted at both the Catalyst and Linear International Film Festivals, winning Best LGBT+ Film of the Year in 2019. In "The Wind Cries," where she plays Laurie Lovely, the film was shortlisted at the Oscar-qualifying Dances with Film Festival (L.A.), which she attended.
Johanna holds an Honours BSc and MSc in Psychology and Neuroscience from IOPPN. She enjoys writing articles and scripts and speaks on topics such as resilience and neurodiversity. Her autobiography in short stories, "If Only You Knew," is available on Amazon, and her commissioned wellbeing articles can be found online.
Discovered as a model at 16, Johanna has worked with brands including Range Rover, Meaty Bites (USA), the eco-friendly bark-based brand José Hendo, Isabelle Deringo (during LA Fashion Week), and appeared in campaigns for DIAGEO, TFI, and Aviva Healthcare. She has also been a cover model for DIVA magazine.
