Biografi
Gabrielle Dennis is a versatile artist, trained in dance, acting, and singing since the age of 4. She always envisioned a career in the arts and, while she has appeared on stage and in film, she is best known for her television work. Her first significant recurring role was Janay Brice on the popular series "The Game" (CW & BET). After three seasons on the CW, the show was canceled but later revived by BET following a fan-driven campaign. Gabrielle left the series in 2012 and went on to star in one season of "Blue Mountain State" (Spike TV), with guest appearances on shows such as "Justified" (FX), "Bones" (Fox), and "Baby Daddy" (ABC Family). She then secured her first network series regular role on "Rosewood" (Fox), playing Pippy Rosewood, the sister of the titular character. Recognizing her talents, producers incorporated her singing into the storyline, allowing her to record several songs for the show and its soundtrack. Though "Rosewood" was canceled after two seasons, Gabrielle quickly landed the role of Tilda Johnson, aka Nightshade, in the junior season of Marvel's "Luke Cage," where she showcased her singing with the song "Family First," which she wrote and performed for a pivotal scene. Unfortunately, the series was canceled after Disney removed its shows from Netflix, cutting her character's development short.
Following that, Gabrielle portrayed Whitney Houston in "The Bobby Brown Story," a two-part mini-series for BET that earned her an NAACP Image Award nomination and a series win. She later portrayed another icon, Tina Turner, in an episode of "American Soul" (BET) focused on the legendary Soul Train. She also had recurring roles on "Insecure" (HBO) and "S.W.A.T" (CBS).
In 2019, Gabrielle returned to her comedic roots when Robin Thede, whom she met during her stand-up comedy days, invited her to co-star in the HBO series "A Black Lady Sketch Show," which received three Emmy nominations in its first season. Although Gabrielle has performed stand-up, toured with a sketch troupe, and was a series regular on another sketch comedy show, "The Underground" (Showtime), many fans were surprised to see her portray over two dozen characters during the first two seasons of "A Black Lady Sketch Show." Fans eagerly anticipate her performances with the show’s season 3 renewal. In 2020, Gabrielle returned to Netflix as a recurring character, Tasha, on the hit series "The Upshaws," showcasing more of her comedic skills. In 2021, she landed her first leading role in a network television pilot titled "Someone Out There" (CBS), scheduled to film in summer 2021.
