Biografi
Daniel Rosenfeld, a director from Buenos Aires, was honored as New Director at the Venice Official Competition. He also serves as co-producer on his films and various projects.
Before becoming a director, he studied piano composition for several years but ultimately pursued filmmaking. He graduated in Mass Media, trained in editing with Miguel Perez, staging with Augusto Fernandes, acting with Julio Chavez, and attended seminars led by Krzysztof Kieslowski, Stephen Frears, Jorge Goldenberg, Lita Stantic, Ken Adam, Alessandro Baricco, Anthony Minghella, and Abbas Kiarostami.
Prior to directing, he worked as assistant director to Alejandro Agresti on feature films such as Buenos Aires Viceversa, Wind with the Gone, and La Cruz (script stage).
He has directed award-winning feature films, both documentaries and fiction. His projects feature talented actors including Leonardo Sbaraglia, Nahuel Pérez Biscayart, Mercedes Morán, Rafael Spregelburd, Oscar Martínez, Martina Garello, and Irene Jacob. His films have premiered at prestigious festivals such as Berlinale, Venice Official Competition, IDFA, San Sebastián, Karlovy Vary, FIDMarseille, Visions du Réel, Rotterdam, MoMA, and Centre Pompidou. As Daniel Rosenfeld (formerly Rosinante Films), he co-produced 14 titles in collaboration with partners from France, Denmark, Spain, the Netherlands, Japan, and Germany.
In 2021, he received the Konex Award as the best documentary director of the decade in Argentina, coinciding with the release of his latest documentary, "Piazzolla, The Years of the Shark." This film was co-produced with ARTE France, Tohokushinsha Film Corporation Japan, Avotros Netherlands, and Ideale Audience. It premiered theatrically in 25 countries and was nominated for the 2019 Latin Grammy for Best Long Documentary on Music. The documentary won multiple awards including Best Latin American Film for "All is True," Best Documentary of the Year from the Argentine Academy of Motion Pictures and Arts, Best Documentary Script from the Society of Writers Argentina, the Sky-Arte Distribution Award at TorinoSYS 2019, and the Silver Condor for Best Documentary of the Year from the Argentine Film Critics Association. It had its international premiere at IDFA with a gala screening at the Opera Carré and was an official selection, also nominated for the Audience Award at IDFA. The film opened the documentary season on HBO Latin America. Rosenfeld's next project will be a fiction film based on a tale by Karen Blixen.
