Two-time Pacific Northwest Emmy® Award recipient A.J. began his film industry career at just 16 years old as Assistant Producer for Channel 7's children's TV show A*mazing, hosted by James Sherry. He made history as the youngest person in Australia to hold such a role, contributing to 195 TV episodes before finishing high school.
Over the following two years, A.J. worked across all major television stations in his hometown of Perth, covering news, current affairs, sports, and lifestyle programs, as well as working with Australian TV powerhouse Global Television on shows like Big Brother and Australian Idol.
His narrative writing and directorial debut came with the Australian film "Ronan's Escape," a provocative 16-minute production. The impactful screenplay attracted Academy Award nominee Martin Mhando as producer. "Ronan's Escape" received critical acclaim, screening at 17 international film festivals worldwide, earning 13 international nominations and 10 awards, including the World Cinema Directing Award for Best Director at the Amsterdam Film Festival; Best Short Film at the 16th Annual Sedona International Film Festival Director's Choice Awards, presented by Michael Moore; and Best International Film at the Oscar-qualifying 6th Annual HollyShorts Film Festival in Hollywood. The film's ongoing success has led to over 57 million shares across Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, securing a place in teen pop culture tied to its central theme, with footage featured in American pop star Demi Lovato's music video for "Believe in Me."
While traveling between the USA and Australia, A.J. gained significant directing experience on numerous Hollywood productions, including multiple TV series, and producing, writing, and directing more than 850 US television commercials for clients such as McDonald's, Uber, and Chevron. Notably, he was commissioned to produce and direct the commercial "23" for James Cameron, starring Cameron alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger. This 60-second spot became the most successful campaign ever run by the marketing company behind it.
A.J. frequently returns to his hometown of Perth, Western Australia, for filming. Recently, he served as 2nd Unit Director on John V. Soto's crime thriller The Reckoning, starring Jonathan LaPaglia and Luke Hemsworth; the sci-fi thriller The Gateway, starring Jacqueline McKenzie; and Avarice, featuring Gillian Alexy and Alexandra Nell.
Currently, A.J. is focused on feature filmmaking, developing multiple documentary and motion picture projects within the thriller and action/sci-fi genres. His work is often cerebral, with screenplays that explore complex character layers and intertwined storylines.
In 2025, A.J. earned two Emmys® at the 62nd Pacific Northwest Regional Emmy Awards for his documentary film Owyhee Canyonlands.
