Born in 1922 in Hamburg, Germany, Gérard Néry spent a highly itinerant childhood traveling across Europe with his older sister Hélène, following their parents through Switzerland, Italy, Germany, and Holland. When Hélène was eighteen and Gérard fifteen, they decided to settle in Paris. Gérard was not a strong student and was uncertain about his future, but he had a talent for making the right choices. Employed as a stage manager at the Théâtre des Célestins in Lyon, he participated in rehearsals for Roger Ferdinand's "Les J-3." In 1944, when the lead actor François Périer could not reach Lyon due to the advancing American army, Gérard boldly offered to replace him. "Les J-3" became a defining hit of the Liberation era, and the young, inexperienced actor quickly rose to fame as a juvenile star. However, this success also limited him, as he became typecast in similar roles. Despite efforts to break free from the cheerful youth stereotype, he remained confined to such parts. He appeared in the film adaptation of "Les J-3" and took on comparable roles in two films directed by André Berthomieu: "J'ai 17 ans" (1945) and "Amour, délices et orgues" (1947). Fortunately, Gérard Néry had diverse talents. Passionate about writing, he transitioned into a playwright, scriptwriter, and notably a successful novelist, known for works such as the "Julie Crèvecoeur" series, "Les nuits d'Hollywood," and "Chasse aux cerveaux.
