Lu Yi (born January 6, 1976) is a Chinese actor and singer who graduated from the Shanghai Theatre Academy in 1999. He began his acting career at the age of five. In 1999, he gained fame through the TV series Never Dies Content. Following his debut, Lu Yi appeared in numerous TV series and films, including Boy & Girl and Confucius. In 2006, he married actress Bo Lei, and three years later, their daughter Lu Yu Xuan (Bei Er) was born.
Born into an ordinary family in Shanghai, Lu Yi started acting as a child but remained relatively unknown early on. At age five, he appeared in the film Spring Ding-dong. Between ages five and eighteen, he acted in an average of one to two movies annually. In eighth grade, Lu Yi began studying Peking Opera and Chinese Kung Fu, and over three years, he participated in more than 700 performances. After years of training, he joined the cast of the TV series Never Dies Content in 1999, which propelled him to become one of China's leading actors.
Following his 1999 breakthrough, Lu Yi's popularity grew significantly. This period marked the most active phase of his career, during which he starred in fourteen TV series and films that attracted widespread attention in China. He also published two books and released two albums. In 2004 and 2005, he ranked thirteenth and eleventh respectively on the Forbes Chinese Celebrities List. His film Seven Swords was the opening movie at the Venice Film Festival in 2005, earning seven nominations at the Golden Horse Awards and two at the Hong Kong Film Awards.
In 2006, Lu Yi married actress Bao Lei, his classmate from Shanghai Theatre Academy, with whom he had known for over ten years. He took a hiatus from acting after their wedding.
Returning from his break in 2007, Lu Yi starred in leading roles in films such as Anna & Anna, Fit Lover, and Tangshan Dadizhen. His 2010 film The Stool Pigeon received four nominations at the Hong Kong Film Awards, and in 2011, his movie Three Kingdoms won two awards in Korea and Japan. Lu Yi has remained active in both film and television to the present day.
