Marshall Persinger, through her company Fresh Produce Pictures, has focused on creatively challenging and innovative projects. She has produced films, documentaries, and television programs that are distinctive and often edgy, featuring both established and emerging talent. Recently, Persinger executive produced THE GOOD LORD BIRD in Richmond, VA, a limited series set to premiere on August 9, 2020, for Blumhouse Television and Showtime, starring Ethan Hawke as the notable abolitionist John Brown. Her television credits include Hulu's INTO THE DARK series, TNT/PTV's Emmy-nominated THE ALIENIST, AMC/SundanceTV's Peabody Award-winning RECTIFY created by Ray McKinnon, and ABC Studios/Lifetime's popular series ARMY WIVES.
Her documentary Z CHANNEL: A MAGNIFICENT OBSESSION, directed by Xan Cassavetes for IFC, was an Official Selection at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival and screened at numerous festivals worldwide. Other past projects include Showtime's WILD IRIS, starring film legend Gena Rowlands and Oscar® nominee Laura Linney (both nominated for Best Actress Emmys®, with Linney winning); CHERRY FALLS, starring Brittany Murphy and Jay Mohr (USA Films); the Polish brothers' TWIN FALLS IDAHO (Sony Classics); KILL THE MAN (Blockbuster Films), featuring Luke Wilson and Joshua Malina; and STILL BREATHING (October Films) with Brendan Fraser.
Persinger began her entertainment career in New York in 1986 under the mentorship of Academy Award®-winning producer/director Jonathan Demme. She collaborated with Errol Morris on his groundbreaking documentary THE THIN BLUE LINE, George Armitage on MIAMI BLUES starring Alec Baldwin and Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Demme on MARRIED TO THE MOB featuring Michelle Pfeiffer, Matthew Modine, Oliver Platt, as well as the multiple Academy Award-winning THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS starring Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins. Additionally, Persinger produced E. Max Frye's social satire AMOS & ANDREW, starring Nicolas Cage and Samuel L. Jackson.
A native of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, Persinger holds a B.A. in rhetoric and communications from the University of Virginia. She currently lives in Los Angeles and served for ten years as co-chair of the Independent Film Producers Committee for the Producers Guild of America.
