Biografia
Lisa Smit first gained public recognition as the female lead in the children’s horror film Gruesome School Trip (2005), which became a national box office success and earned awards in both the United States and Great Britain.
Following her role in the acclaimed youth series Willemspark (2007), Lisa starred in the psychological thriller TBS (2008), internationally known as Nothing To Lose (2008). The film won the prestigious Golden Film Award for selling over 100,000 tickets and received Best Feature at the Philadelphia International Film Festival.
After focusing on her education for some time, Lisa returned to the big screen in 2010 with the lead female role in the drama Shocking Blue (2010). She also appeared as a guest star on the popular police series Flikken Maastricht (2007) in a season finale that attracted nearly two million viewers.
In 2010, Lisa took a supporting role in Lena (2011), directed by acclaimed Flemish filmmaker Christophe van Rompaey, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2011. Around the same period, her lead role in the Dutch TV movie Mijn Marko (2011) debuted at the Dutch Film Festival in Utrecht.
In 2011, Lisa landed her first leading role in an international production as Laura Werner in Quellen Des Lebens, directed by German writer-director Oskar Roehler. The film premiered in Berlin on February 5, 2013, and was released nationwide on February 14.
Quellen Des Lebens received a nomination for Best Film at the 2013 German Film Awards. Lisa also starred in the Dutch series Max & Billy’s Drill Machine Girl, which was nominated for an International Emmy Award.
She further co-starred in the youth series Zusjes and the historical epic Kenau, which premiered internationally at the Stony Brook Festival in New York, where it won the Audience Award for Best Feature.
Lisa then starred in the short film The Last Day of Summer, directed by Feike Santbergen, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). She also led in the short film Forever After by British director Charlotte Scott-Wilson, which competed at the Palm Springs International Short Film Festival in California.
In 2015, Lisa appeared in the third season of Doctor Deen and took a leading role in the supernatural drama series Project Orpheus, which aired on Dutch television in spring 2016. She also starred in Feike Santbergen’s film The Long Reach of Shadow, portraying a psychologically troubled young woman. Shot mainly in Greece, the film premiered at the Dutch Film Festival in September 2016. Afterward, Lisa focused on her studies before returning to filming in early 2017 with the romantic comedy All The Single Ladies!, written and directed by Los Angeles-based filmmaker Yfke van Berckelaer.
In 2018, Lisa featured in the historical action drama Redbad, directed by Hollywood filmmaker Roel Reine. The project was initially released theatrically before being expanded into a four-part series.
In 2019, Lisa starred in the short film Lili, again directed by Yfke van Berckelaer, which was showcased at over 200 international festivals and won numerous awards for both Lisa and the film itself.
Also in 2019, Lisa earned a Golden Calf nomination for her role in the crime drama Baantjer The Beginning, directed by Arne Toonen. This successful theatrical release, which won the Golden Film award, was later adapted into a long-form television series.
In 2020, Lisa was among the stars of the horror series Ares, which gained attention as the first Dutch Netflix original series.
In 2021, Lisa played supporting roles in the feature film My Father Is An Airplane by Antoinette Beumer, which opened the Dutch Film Festival, and in the Videoland series Woensel West, where she portrayed one of her most eccentric and humorous characters.
