Biografia
Sophia joined Bunya in 2019 as co-Managing Director of Bunya Entertainment, working alongside David Jowsey and Greer Simpkin. Bunya Entertainment specializes in scripted television, with a development slate featuring over 25 scripted dramas and comedies. The company produced The Moth Effect for Amazon and is currently producing Limbo for the ABC.
Before joining Bunya, Sophia served as Director of Screen Investment, Engagement, and Attraction at Create NSW, where she led the screen program. Prior to that, she was Head of Development and Production at Screen NSW.
During her tenure at the agency, Sophia oversaw the commissioning of acclaimed productions such as Warwick Thornton's Sweet Country, Rachel Perkins' Mystery Road, Nash Edgerton's Mr Inbetween, Bruce Beresford's Ladies in Black, and Jeffrey Walker's Riot.
Sophia played a key creative role in launching successful TV drama initiatives at Create NSW, including #shedirects—aimed at increasing female TV drama directors with collaborators like Rachel Griffiths, Leah Purcell, and Rachel Perkins—Cli-Fi, a screen development program with ABC Drama focusing on climate-change science fiction, and the Amplifier Feature Film Fund, supporting talented writers and directors such as Luke Davies, Jen Peedom, and Kate Mulvaney.
She is also a dedicated advocate for emerging talent, consistently championing creative voices from underrepresented groups throughout her career.
Before her time at Create NSW, Sophia commissioned and executive produced more than thirty award-winning television programs, including Gruen, The Chaser, Kitchen Cabinet, Shaun Micallef's Mad As Hell, and Judith Lucy's Spiritual Journey. She also served as Deputy Head of Entertainment at ABC TV, Australia's national television network.
