David Price's career could be said to have begun at birth. He is the son of Frank Price, former President and Producer at Columbia and Universal Studios (known for Ghostbusters, Gandhi, Tootsie, Out of Africa), and the grandson of television pioneer Roy Huggins (creator of Maverick, The Fugitive, 77 Sunset Strip).
In 2007, Price took a break from the entertainment industry to explore his passion for food. As Owner and Executive Chef of Terra restaurant in Malibu, he earned prestigious reviews from Zagat and was named a favorite local dining spot. He also founded Malibu Foods, which catered to major music festivals such as Coachella and Stagecoach.
Now fully back in the entertainment world, Price is co-producing "Knight Rider: The Movie" alongside creator Glen A. Larson.
In 2009, Price directed the award-winning short film "Laredo," which received Best Cinematography and a Special Recognition Award at The Boston International Film Festival.
He produced and edited the documentary Oskar Fischinger: The Creative Spirit, a MOCA special project that premiered at the museum in 2000 before touring nationally, concluding at New York's Museum Of Modern Art.
More recently, Price produced and directed "Passport to the World," a family travel series for Miramax/Disney that he created. The show explores cities with children in mind and features presenters Gail Porter and Reggie Yates.
In 1996, Price directed and created Savoy Pictures' comedy "Dr. Jekyll and Ms. Hyde," a modern take on Robert Louis Stevenson's classic. The film stars Sean Young, Tim Daly, Lysette Anthony, and Harvey Fierstein. The Hollywood Reporter praised it as "an amusing sex farce buoyed by spirited performances and state-of-the-art effects," while Starburst Magazine complimented its humor and commercial appeal.
In 1992, Price directed the successful Miramax/Dimension film "Children of the Corn II," which grossed over $10 million at the U.S. box office. Playboy noted that "Price has the right stuff," and The Los Angeles Times commended his direction as exceeding the material's expectations. Britain's Starburst Magazine called it "a well-mounted continuation of the 1984 saga" with "skillfully paced horror." Made on a budget just under one million dollars, the film was a financial success, shipping over 80,000 video units and adding $4 million to domestic revenue. Its worldwide gross is expected to surpass $25 million, and it was included in Variety's Winner Circle list of 1993's highest-grossing independent films.
Shortly thereafter, Price co-produced "Leprechaun" (Lionsgate/Trimark), starring Jennifer Aniston, which spawned over eight sequels.
David Price began his professional career as an actor, studying at the Lee Strasberg Institute and The Loft. He appeared in films such as 9 to 5, Mommie Dearest, and Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Interested in the behind-the-scenes aspects of filmmaking, he transitioned to production, starting as an assistant to producer Ray Stark (Funny Girl, The Way We Were, Secret of My Success). During this time, he worked on productions including Annie, Blue Thunder, and The Toy.
While working on The Toy, Price met director Richard Donner (Superman, Lethal Weapon), and spent the following two years as Donner's assistant, including six months filming in Italy on Ladyhawke.
After returning from Italy, Price attended the University of Southern California (USC), majoring in Film and Italian. At USC, he served as Vice President of the Student Senate, Executive Director of the USC Program Board overseeing campus events, and President of the Italian Club.
Following USC, Price made his directorial debut with the film Son of Darkness: To Die For 2 (1991). Daily Variety praised it as "one of those genuine rarities: a sequel that's much better written, directed and acted than its predecessor," and VideoHound's Video Guide® highlighted its first-rate acting, stunt work, and special effects. Produced on a $500,000 budget, it was among Trimark's top ten releases for 1991.
For television, Price directed multiple episodes of the successful syndicated series Nightman, produced by Glen Larson and Tribune.
He has two sons, Will and Dylan, and has been with partner Charlotte Robinson since 2005.
David Price holds dual Irish and American citizenship and is a member of the Directors Guild of America.
