Biografia
Jane Anderson was raised in Northern California's Bay Area, where her father, an inventor and electronics engineer, was among Silicon Valley's pioneering entrepreneurs. Enthralled by theater, Anderson left college after two years to pursue acting in New York City. She starred in the New York premiere of David Mamet's "Sexual Perversity in Chicago," which ran for over a year and helped establish Mamet's reputation. She later shifted to writing and performing her own works in cabarets and comedy clubs. In the early 1980s, she relocated to Los Angeles, where she began writing for film and television and, unexpectedly, found her voice as a serious playwright. Her film directing career started in the late 1990s when actor and producer Jodie Foster offered her the chance to direct the film adaptation of her play "The Baby Dance," which earned numerous honors and awards.
Her plays have been staged Off-Broadway and in theaters nationwide, including Actors Theatre of Louisville, The McCarter Theatre, Long Wharf Theatre, ACT, the Geffen Playhouse, and The Pasadena Playhouse. Her published works include "Looking for Normal," "The Baby Dance," "Defying Gravity," "Smart Choices for the New Century," "Lynette at 3AM," and "The Last Time We Saw Her." Her latest play, "The Quality of Life," debuted at the Geffen Playhouse under her direction.
Anderson lives in both Los Angeles and Marin County, Northern California, with her spouse, Tess Ayers, and their son, Raphael.
