Richard Kuhlman, born on March 7, 1955, in Cincinnati, Ohio, is an American actor, director, and writer. Throughout his childhood, he was passionate about acting and often directed his friends in imaginative play, whether in a treehouse or acting as soldiers or cowboys. As a high school student, he was part of Young People's Theatre and earned a Guildie Award in 1973 for his portrayal of Fagin in Oliver!. During his time at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, he performed and directed Shakespeare plays and summer stock musicals before leaving college to become the Artistic Director of the Shakespeare Festival of Cincinnati, supported by a CETA Grant from the Jimmy Carter administration. In 1979, Richard moved to Chicago, where he acted with Paul Sills Story Theatre, the Goodman Theatre, Second City, and appeared in TV commercials for four years. He then relocated to Hollywood in 1983. His film work includes collaborations with directors such as Ron Howard, John Cassavetes, and Robert Townsend. On stage, he draws inspiration from directors like Paul Sills, Jon Jory, and Tom Humphrey. In 2014, he married Amy Lynn Stevenson, a talented artist and illustrator, and they currently reside in the Ojai Valley.
