Biografia
Director and writer Hubert de La Bouillerie, with creative roots in both America and France, initially made his mark in the film industry as an editor. He rapidly became one of Hollywood’s most sought-after talents, having edited over 30 major feature films and 20 significant television projects. Many of these were for Warner Brothers, where he maintained a close collaborative relationship with Chairman and President Bob Daly, Terry Semel, and top producers Peter Guber and Jon Peters.
His distinguished editing credits include "The Witches of Eastwick" (directed by George Miller/Warners), "Woodstock" (Warners), "Other People’s Money" (Norman Jewison/Warners), "Tango and Cash" (Warners), "Police Academy Five and Six" (Warners), "The Harvest" (Columbia), "Graffiti Bridge" (Warners), "Celtic Pride" (Disney/Caravan Pictures), "Blank Check" (Disney), "Mo’ Money" (Columbia), "State of Emergency" for HBO, and the miniseries "Roots: The Next Generation". He also received an Academy Award nomination for the short film "12:01," which later inspired the film "Groundhog Day."
Transitioning to directing and writing, Hubert’s directorial achievements include "The Right to Remain Silent," a Showtime film that earned widespread acclaim and the Cable Ace Award for Amanda Plummer’s performance. The film featured Lea Thompson, Robert Loggia, LL Cool J, Patrick Dempsey, Amanda Plummer, Judge Reinhold, Carl Reiner, Fisher Stevens, Christopher Lloyd, and Laura San Giacomo, becoming one of Showtime’s most frequently broadcast movies.
Next, he directed "The Apocalypse" for the Sci Fi Channel, starring Sandra Bernhard, Matt McCoy, Cameron Dye, and Laura San Giacomo, which became one of the channel’s top-rated films. He then took over directing duties on "Rangers," starring Michael Biehn and Adrian Paul. Called to the Philippines to replace the original director, Hubert completed the film’s major action sequences in under six weeks, ensuring its successful completion, editing, and release.
Following "Rangers," he directed an internet pilot titled "Boner the Dog," created by noted comedy writer Bob Klane ("Where’s Papa?"). The pilot starred George Segal as a politically charged dog with attitude, wearing a suit designed by the legendary Theodora Van Runkel.
Hubert has also directed episodes of David Kelley’s acclaimed television series "Boston Legal," starring James Spader, William Shatner, Candice Bergen, and René Auberjonois. Leveraging past collaborations, he brought Carl Reiner onto an episode, resulting in one of the season’s most celebrated performances.
As a writer, Hubert’s works include "Of Love and Evil; The Birth," an epic love story recently novelized; "Love With All The Trimmings," a romantic comedy; "Print The Legend," about director John Ford’s life; "Stairway To Heaven," a narrative of love, revenge, and redemption; "Kiss My Ass," a wild romantic comedy; and "Boner the Dog," co-written with Bob Klane. He was married to Debbie Robins De La Bouillerie for over twenty-five years until her passing; Debbie produced and co-wrote many of his projects.
