Gabriel Chavarria recently starred as the lead in the USA Network/Syfy series "The Purge." Based on the franchise centered around one day each year when murder and mayhem are legal, Gabriel portrayed "Miguel," a tough US Marine on a noble mission, ready to confront the senseless violence alone to protect his family. Franchise creator James DeMonaco oversaw the series, presenting a new chapter in America's 12 hours of annual lawlessness.
Gabriel played "Preacher" in "War For The Planet Of The Apes," alongside Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Judy Greer, and Steve Zahn, directed by Matt Reeves. In this third installment of the Fox franchise reboot, "Preacher" (Chavarria) struggles with his loyalty to the deranged "Colonel" (Harrelson) and his respect for "Caesar" (Serkis), who embarks on a mystical quest for vengeance after enduring great loss.
Gabriel’s previous lead role in the Blumhouse/Imagine/Universal film "Lowriders" earned him an Imagen Award nomination for Best Actor. He starred opposite Academy Award nominee Demián Bichir, Eva Longoria, Melissa Benoist, and Theo Rossi, under the direction of Ricardo de Montreuil. Gabriel portrayed "Danny," a gifted graffiti artist caught between his father (Bichir) and brother (Rossi), who compete in the ultimate lowrider supershow celebrating East L.A.’s car culture.
The film "Hunter Killer," featuring Gabriel alongside Gerard Butler and Gary Oldman, is scheduled for release on October 26. Filmed in London, the movie follows an inexperienced American submarine captain teaming up with U.S. Navy Seals to rescue the kidnapped Russian president from a rogue general.
Gabriel also led the cast as "Ziggy Rodriguez" in Fox’s military thriller pilot "Behind Enemy Lines," starring Marg Helgenberger, Melia Kreiling, and B.J. Britt. Loosely based on the 2001 film and written by Nikki Toscano with direction by McG, the story follows "Ziggy" (Chavarria), a Navy pilot trapped with fellow soldiers in hostile territory, while aircraft carrier officers and intelligence agents in D.C. work to bring them safely home.
Earlier in his career, Gabriel starred as "Jacob" for four seasons in the Emmy-nominated series "East Los High," and appeared in films such as "Freedom Writers" and "A Better Life," as well as TV shows including "Prime Suspect" and "Major Crimes."
Originally on track to become a professional soccer player, Gabriel was selected at 13 for the Olympic Development Program and competed in tournaments across the U.S., Spain, and England.
His path changed at 16 when he was discovered during casting for "Freedom Writers," starring Academy Award winner Hilary Swank. While playing basketball at a local park where auditions were held, Gabriel was encouraged by his older brother to try out. After a month-long process, he landed his first role as Tito.
Since then, Gabriel’s career has steadily grown as he dedicates himself to the entertainment industry and honing his craft.
Outside of acting, Gabriel is deeply involved with West Coast Elite FC soccer club, which he co-founded with his brother. The club develops players and teams that compete across the U.S. and Europe. He also supports various charitable outreach programs.
Driven by his passion for music, Gabriel recently launched his own independent label, G & B Music Group.
Above all, Gabriel’s greatest priorities remain his family and friends.
